The ZI-XA3 Crabman (ZI-XA3 クラブマン?) [4], also designated as the MS-01 [1][5], is a mobile suit appearing in the Mobile Suit Gundam MSV-R Legend of the Universal Century Heroes: The Fabulous Shin Matsunaga manga.
History[]
The Principality of Zeon Ministry of Defense ordered each weapon manufacturer to develop new weapons for use with Minovsky particles. Of the systems presented, only Zeonic's ZI-XA3 and MIP's MIP-X1 met the requirements [1].
The "humanoid" ZI-XA3 is said to have brought Gihren Zabi to laughter [1]. MS development began in a fumbling state. As the first unit, the ZI-XA3 was given the greatest mission. It was recorded in many materials as the "complete bipedal walking system" [6].

In the M.S. ERA book, it was described as the fusion of two revolutionary concepts—the space pod (free-flying mobile manipulator) and the AMBAC system. This resulted in a gigantic anthropomorphous machine with a height of 10 meters. Its development process was extremely trying. There were various problems in adjusting the auto-balancer to maintain perfect balance to prevent the machine from tumbling over [3].
The Ministry of Defense decided to adopt the ZI-XA3 as it surpassed the MIP-X1 in overall performance [1].
In U.C. 0073, the first MS unit, the MS-01, was finally completed. The "MS" model number was, of course, taken from "Mobile S.U.I.T." acronym [6]. With it receiving the designation MS-01, the Ministry of Defense ordered the development of a combat type disguised as a new type of space work machine [1].
