The Proto-Saviour is a Mobile Suit in the manga Gundam SEED Destiny Astray.

Technology & Combat Characteristics

Aside from having a black and white color scheme (for high visibility in flight-tests) instead of red, the Proto-Saviour is visually indistinguishable from the ZGMF-X23S Saviour, and also features the exact same armament. It was mainly designed for stress testing the frame during flight and transformation.

As with the armament, the system features of the Proto-Saviour are the same as the ones of the standard Saviour and consist of Variable Phase Shift armor and the Deuterion beam energy supply system.

The Proto-Saviour is later stolen and upgraded by the Earth Alliance and now can use a Mirage Colloid Virus Spreader, which affects Quantum Computers. This allows the suit to affect the computers of enemy mobile suits as well as certain machines. The model number given by Earth Alliance seems to indicate that the theft occur after the Armory One incident. The unit is later upgraded by its pilot into Proto-Saviour "+11".

Armaments

  • M106 "Amfortas" plasma beam cannon
The pair of "Amfortas" plasma beam cannons are the Proto-Saviour's most powerful weapons. The cannons are attached to the backpack and are movable. When in mobile suit mode the cannons come up under the arms to be fired, while in mobile armor mode the cannons always face forward.
  • MA-7B "Super Fortis" beam cannon
The Ma-7B "Super Fortis" beam cannons are beam rifle-caliber beam cannons mounted above the "Amfortas" plasma beam cannons.
  • MA-BAR70 high-energy beam rifle
The beam rifle is an optional hand armament that is used for ranged combat. Though not as powerful as the "Amfortas" cannons, the beam rifle is more then enough to destroy standard mobile suits and it draws on less energy.
  • MA-M941 "Vajra" beam saber
The only close combat armament of the Proto-Saviour are two MA-M941 "Vajra" beam sabers, which, when not in use, are stored in the shoulders of the suit.
  • MMI-GAU2 "Picus" 76mm machine gun
The "Picus" machine guns are the shell firing weapons of the Proto-Saviour's mobile armor mode and serve the same purpose as the CIWS. The "Picus" machine guns are located on the backpack cowl that covers the Proto-Saviour's head in mobile armor mode.
  • MMI-GAU25A 20mm CIWS
The MMI-GAU25A 20mm CIWS are a standard shell firing "close in weapons system" mounted in the mobile suits head and is designed to shoot down small fast moving targets such a missiles or fighter jets.
  • MMI-RD11 aerodynamic shield
The MMi-RD11 shield is a defensive armament that can block multiple attacks, specifically beam attacks that the VPS armor cannot block. The shield possesses an aerodynamic form so as to not hinder the mobile suit in flight. In mobile armor mode the shield is attached to the unit's torso.

System Features

A new transfer system allowing the Proto-Saviour to rapidly recharge it's battery, however it was never used as the Earth Alliance did not possess any ships with the transfer system.
Allows deployment of a computer virus which can take over other mobile suits without being affected by N-Jammer.
  • Operating System
The Proto-Saviour uses the Generation Unrestricted Network Drive Assault Module complex
A form of Phase Shift armor produced by ZAFT which is far more efficient.

History

In CE 73, ZAFT created a series of new and advanced mobile suits which used several new technologies. One of these suits was the Saviour, a transformable unit for combat in Earth’s atmosphere. As with the ZGMF-X24S Chaos, the Saviour’s design was based upon a prototype unit, which is the Proto-Saviour. The Proto-Saviour, unlike ZAFT's other new mobile suits, was designed and constructed on Earth.

Shortly after the "Break the World" terrorist attack, the Proto-Saviour was stolen on Earth by EA forces under the command of Logos operative Matisse Adukurf, and is refitted with the Mirage Colloid Virus Spreader and re-designated with the model number RGX-04. Piloted by Ile De Llorar, it made its combat debut by attacking a shuttle carrying EA fugitive Edward Harrelson and PLANT reporter Bernadette Leroux and escorted by TS-MA4F Exus pilot Morgan Chevalier and ZGMF-1001 ZAKU Phantom pilot Riika Sheder, presumably to sow further distrust between the EA and PLANT. After a short battle between the three units, the Proto-Saviour was driven off by Terminal pilot Jean Carry in his MBF-M1 Astray, which is equipped with a Verne 35A/MPFM Multipurpose Flight Module. Afterwards, Ile attacked the ReHOME to capture Lowe Guele but has to abort the attack on orders from Matisse. Ile eventually witnessed the destruction of Matisse' Girty Lue-class battleship from his Proto-Saviour.
