The ZGMF-56E2/γ Blast Impulse Gundam Spec II is a Mobile Suit introduced in the movie Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom. It is piloted by Lunamaria Hawke.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
An upgraded version of the ZGMF-X56S/γ Blast Impulse Gundam secretly modified by Erica Simmons at the request of Cagalli Yula Athha, the Blast Impulse Gundam Spec II features improved battery capacity. Its Variable Phase Shift Armor settings have been heavily modified to replace the majority of its white parts with a light olive green including on the v-fin, and its blue and green colors turned down to a darker saturation. Otherwise, the Blast Impulse Spec II retains all of the capabilities of the original Blast Impulse Gundam.
Armaments[]
- M2000F "Kerberos" High-Energy Long-Range Beam Cannon
- The most powerful ranged weaponry of the Blast Impulse Spec II is its two large M2000F "Kerberos" high-energy long-range beam cannons. They are mounted on the sides of the Blast Silhouette pack and swing underneath the Impulse Spec II's shoulders when used. While each cannon has a retractable handle on the outer side, it is not necessary for the handle to be held to fire the weapon.
- GMF39 Quadruple Missile Launcher
- Mounted in the other end of each "Kerberos" high-energy long-range beam cannon, the pair of four tube missile launchers swing over the shoulders when used and can fire multiple AGM141 "Firefly" guided missiles. The missile launchers can be used at the same time as the "Kerberos" high-energy long-range beam cannons.
- MMI-GAU25A 20mm CIWS
- Mounted in the Impulse Spec II's chest, the pair of physical projectile-firing CIWS guns have excellent rapid-fire capabilities. They are primarily used to intercept incoming missiles or enemy units, and to restrict enemy's movements. They are also capable of penetrating ordinary mobile suit armor in extreme close range.
- M71-AAK "Folding Razor" Anti-Armor Knife
- One stored in each of the suit's side armor, these knives are developed based on the data of the GAT-X105 Strike's combat knives. Its high hardness blade flips out of the handle during use and can vibrate to enhance cutting capabilities. It can pierce through most armor, except PS armor or its variants, and does not draw power from the suit.
- MA-M80 "Defiant" Beam Javelin
- Although designed for ranged combat, the Blast Silhouette pack contains two MA-M80 "Defiant" beam javelins, which are stored inside the "Kerberos" high-energy long range beam cannons when not in use.[1][2] These beam javelins are primarily used for close combat, but can also be used as throwing weapons.
- MMI-M16XE2 "Deluge" Hyper-Velocity Rail Cannon
- Two "Deluge" hyper-velocity rail cannons are mounted at the top of the Blast Silhouette pack, and swing over the shoulders when used. These rail cannons fire solid projectiles that have been accelerated via electromagnetic fields.
- MA-BAR72 High-Energy Beam Rifle
- The same beam rifle as used by the normal Impulse, it is stored on the suit's rear skirt armor when not in use. It is an enhanced version of the ZGMF-X10A Freedom and the ZGMF-X09A Justice's beam rifle, and is developed using the ZGMF-X23S Saviour's beam rifle as the base model. It is designed with the Deuterion Beam Energy Transfer System in mind, and has an excellent balance of offensive power and rapid-fire capabilities.
- MMI-RG59V Mobile Shield
- The same anti-beam coated MMI-RG59V mobile shield as used by the normal Impulse Gundam, this defensive armament can be mounted on the left forearm or handheld. This shield is expandable, but is normally used in its compact state by the Blast Impulse Spec II in order to utilize its other weapons with less hindrance.
- Type 35 Prototype Advanced Railgun
- A prototype high-powered handheld railgun, designed to combat the Femto Technology Armor found on the Black Knight Squad's mobile suits. Multiple examples of this weapon were provided to Compass mobile suits fighting against the Kingdom of Foundation, including the Impulse Spec II.
Special Equipment & Features[]
- The Deuterion beam energy transfer system is a wireless energy transfer system built into the Second Stage Series and their support ship, the LHM-BB01 Minerva. The system allows a mobile suit that is properly lined up with the Minerva to receive a recharge while in the field, meaning that if the mobile suit runs low on power during a battle, it can be quickly recharged without coming inside the ship's hangar. The transfer system is very efficient, requiring only a few seconds before fully recharging the mobile suit. Still, on a battlefield, even a few seconds could mean death, so it is advisable for the mobile suit to only perform the maneuver when they have covering fire. Like its predecessor, the Impulse Spec II is also provided with this feature, that it can recharge via the Deuterion beam emitter coming from the ZGMF/A-42S2 Destiny Spec II.
- While the other suits of the Second Stage series are capable of transforming into a mobile armor mode, the Impulse Spec II instead is similar to the Strike in the fact, that it can adapt to different situations by using exchangeable Silhouette packs. In addition to adding weapons and equipment for different mission profiles, these packs also reconfigure the Impulse Spec II's Variable Phase Shift Armor.
- An improved version of Phase Shift Armor, Variable Phase Shift Armor is capable of automatically changing its strength, as well as color and power consumption in the field, although this must be programmed beforehand. When using the Blast Silhouette pack, the armor automatically takes a black, white, green, and blue color scheme.
- Like the other Second Stage Series suits, the Impulse uses the operating system Generation Unrestricted Network Drive Assault Module.
- Power Extender
- Like the other Second Stage Series mobile suits, the Impulse is installed with a power extender to increase its output and operating time. The device also allows it to be equipped with the Variable Phase Shift Armor.
History[]
The Impulse Gundam Spec II was one of three mobile suits upgraded by Erica Simmons within a secret Orb Union asteroid base to bolster Compass' forces in case of an emergency. This would later become prudent when the crew of the LHM-BB03S Millennium needed to acquire new mobile suits to replace their losses following the Eldore incident in order to enact a plan to rescue Lacus Clyne from captivity by the Kingdom of Foundation, which was hiding away in the space fortress Artemis.[3]
Lunamaria Hawke would sortie in the Impulse Spec II to defend the Millennium as it cleared a path to the Requiem superweapon. The Blast Impulse Spec II would be the first configuration used, with its firepower being used to decimate both renegade ZAFT and Foundation fleets and mobile suits.[3]
