The ZGMF-56E2/γ Blast Impulse Gundam Spec II is a Mobile Suit introduced in the movie Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom. It is piloted by Lunamaria Hawke.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
The ZGMF-56E2/γ Blast Impulse Gundam Spec II is a variant of the ZGMF-56E2 Impulse Gundam Spec II equipped with the Blast Silhouette.[1] Powered by the latest model of battery, the Blast Impulse Spec II has a different color scheme from the original ZGMF-X56S/γ Blast Impulse Gundam.[1][2][3] This is caused by the difference in voltage applied when activating the Variable Phase Shift Armor.[2] Otherwise, the Blast Impulse Spec II retains all of the capabilities of the Blast Impulse.[1]
Armaments[]
- M2000F "Kerberos" High-Energy Long-Range Beam Cannon
- The most powerful ranged weaponry of the Blast Impulse Spec II is its two large M2000F "Kerberos" high-energy long-range beam cannons. They are mounted on the sides of the Blast Silhouette and swing underneath the mobile suit's shoulders when used. While each cannon has a retractable handle on the outer side, it is not necessary for the handle to be held to fire the weapon.
- GMF39 Quadruple Missile Launcher
- Mounted in the other end of the "Kerberos" high-energy long-range beam cannons, the pair of four tube missile launchers swing over the shoulders when used and can fire multiple AGM141 "Firefly" guided missiles. The missile launchers can be used at the same time as the "Kerberos".
- MMI-GAU25A 20mm CIWS
- Mounted in the chest, the pair of physical projectile-firing CIWS guns have excellent rapid-fire capabilities. They are primarily used to intercept incoming missiles or enemy units, and to restrict enemy's movements. They are also capable of penetrating ordinary mobile suit armor in extreme close range.
- M71-AAK "Folding Razor" Anti-Armor Knife
- One stored in each of the suit's side armor, its high hardness blade flips out of the handle during use and can vibrate to enhance cutting capabilities. It can pierce through most armor, except Phase Shift Armor or its variants, and does not draw power from the suit.
- MA-M80 "Defiant" Beam Javelin
- The Blast Silhouette contains two MA-M80 "Defiant" beam javelins, which are stored inside the "Kerberos" high-energy long range beam cannons when not in use. These beam javelins are primarily used for close combat, but can also be used as throwing weapons.
- MMI-M16XE2 "Deluge" Hyper-Velocity Rail Cannon
- Two "Deluge" hyper-velocity rail cannons are mounted at the top of the Blast Silhouette, and swing over the shoulders when used. These rail cannons fire solid projectiles that have been accelerated via electromagnetic fields.
- MMI-RG59V Mobile Shield
- A physical anti-beam coated shield used for defense, it can be mounted on the left forearm or handheld. This shield is expandable, but is normally used in its compact state by the Blast Impulse Spec II in order to utilize its other weapons with less hindrance.
- Type 35 Prototype Advanced Railgun
- A prototype handheld weapon that fires high velocity physical projectiles. This railgun is used by Compass mobile suits, including the Blast Impulse Spec II, as a countermeasure against the beam-resistant Femto Technology Armor found on the Black Knight Squad's mobile suits. It is stored on the rear waist armor when not in use.
- MA-BAR72 High-Energy Beam Rifle
- The same model of beam rifle as used by the original Blast Impulse. It has an excellent balance of offensive power and rapid-fire capabilities. It is stored on the suit's rear skirt armor when not in use. The Blast Impulse Spec II was not equipped with this weapon during the battle against Kingdom of Foundation.
Special Equipment & Features[]
- A wireless energy transfer system that allows the mobile suit to recharge its battery without returning to its mothership or base. The transfer system is very efficient, requiring only a few seconds before fully recharging the mobile suit. Unlike the original Blast Impulse which was recharged using a Deuterion Beam emitted from its mothership, the LHM-BB01 Minerva, the Blast Impulse Spec II can recharge via a Deuterion Beam emitted from the ZGMF/A-42S2 Destiny Gundam Spec II.
- Like the original Blast Impulse, the Blast Impulse Spec II is protected by Variable Phase Shift Armor (VPS Armor). This armor is capable of automatically changing its strength, as well as color and power consumption in the field, although this must be programmed beforehand.
- The Impulse Gundam Spec II retained the original ZGMF-X56S Impulse Gundam's ability to adapt to different situations by using exchangeable Silhouette packs. In addition to adding weapons and equipment for different mission profiles, these packs also reconfigure the mobile suit's VPS Armor, causing the mobile suit's colors to change. The Blast Impulse Spec II is the Impulse Spec II equipped with the Blast Silhouette.
History[]
The ZGMF-56E2 Impulse Gundam Spec II was one of three mobile suits covertly upgraded by Erica Simmons at the request of Cagalli Yula Athha. These machines were then stored in a secret underground hangar located in Orb Union's Akatsuki Island. In C.E. 75, the Impulse Spec II, together with the ZGMF/A-42S2 Destiny Gundam Spec II and the ZGMF/A-262B Strike Freedom Gundam Type II, were loaded onto the LHM-BB03S Millennium, a ship operated by world peace monitoring organization, Compass, to replaced their destroyed mobile suits so that the ship's crew could rescue their kidnapped president, Lacus Clyne, and fight against the opposing Kingdom of Foundation.[1]
After Lacus was saved, the Millennium and Compass' allies engaged in a massive space battle with the Kingdom of Foundation. In this battle, Lunamaria Hawke sortied in the Impulse Spec II, which was immediately equipped with the Blast Silhouette. With the Blast Impulse Gundam Spec II's heavy firepower, Lunamaria decimated both renegade ZAFT and Foundation's ships and mobile suits. The Blast Silhouette was later switched out for the Sword Silhouette after Lunamaria agreed to support Shinn Asuka's Destiny Spec II against the Black Knight Squad's NOG-M4F Rud-ro.As.[1]
