The ZGMF-2027/A GYAN Strom is a mobile suit introduced in the animated film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
The ZGMF-2027/A GYAN Strom is a close-combat mobile suit built as the successor to the ZGMF-2000 GOUF Ignited, currently operated exclusively by Compass, with potential ZAFT adoption pending the results of its field tests. In order to keep costs down and make it easier to mass-produce compared to its more expensive predecessor, the GYAN Strom shares many common components with the ZGMF-2025/F GELGOOG Menace, and as a result shares many of the latter suit's features including Wizard System hardpoints and use of the new B.O.L.E.L.O flight packs for improved performance.[1][2]
Gyan Strom had two color sceheme, first color scheme is pale blue, dark blue and white accent color is the mass production color.[1] Second is Agnes Giebenrath color scheme, which is comprise of white and sky blue accent color.[2]
Armaments[]
- MMI-M635D Enhanced Beam Rifle
- A new model beam rifle that succeeds the ZGMF-1000 ZAKU Warrior's MMI-M633 beam rifle. It is stored on the GYAN Strom's right hip armor when not in use.It can also be stored at the back skirt armor when the beam axe is used
- MMI-T818 "Tridenti" Triple-Barrel Rotary Beam Machine Gun
- The GYAN Strom's chest can open up to reveal a pair of rotary beam machine guns, capable of rapid fire to suppress enemy mobile suits and intercept incoming missiles.
- MA-M767E "Slayer Whip" Heat Rod
- An improved version of the GOUF Ignited's MA-757 "Slayer Whip" Heat Rod, with one stored on each forearm. Like its predecessor it is capable of delivering deadly electric shocks to an enemy mobile suit, and when fully powered can slice lightly-armored mobile suits in half.
- MA-GFD230 "Ferro Secare" Beam Saber
- The GYAN Strom's primary close-combat weapon, this unique-looking weapon featuring a full circular handleguard possesses increased power output compared to traditional beam sabers. When not in use, it is stored on the left hip armor.
- MMI-KX8E4 Self Propelled Shield
- For defense, the GYAN Strom carries a large circular shield on its left arm. This shield has multiple beam saber emitters along its edges, and when activated the shield can spin rapidly to saw through enemy mobile suits.
- MA-MR Falx G7 Beam Axe
- A long polearm version of a beam tomahawk, made as the primary weapon of the Slash Wizard Pack. While not designed for the GYAN Strom specifically, the Falx G7 can be used by said mobile suit without issue, and it is able to be wielded effectively by the GYAN Strom with a single hand.
- M71 "Peregrinus" 6-Tube Short Range Guided Missile Launcher
- A multiple tube missile launcher mounted on the B.O.L.E.L.O Pack. A standard B.O.L.E.L.O. loadout carries two of these missile launchers on the backpack.
Special Equipment & Features[]
- The GYAN Strom is equipped with ZAFT's Wizard System, allowing it to adapt to various combat situations by exchanging various backpack weapons and equipment.
- B.O.L.E.L.O
- A newly designed backpack designed for ZAFT's next generation mobile suits, which provide enhanced mobility and firepower. Two variants exist, the "A" variant designed for atmospheric use, and the "S" variant for use in space. Both variants are made to use as many standardized components as possible to improve maintenance and production costs.
- Ballute System
- Special atmospheric reentry equipment for the GYAN Strom that allows it to drop into Earth's atmosphere from orbit without the need for a drop pod. The system is comprised of two large containers attached to the legs, which can deploy an inflatable ballute that protects the mobile suit from the heat of atmospheric reentry. The ballute system is then discarded upon the mobile suit reaching a safe altitude.

In C.E 75, at least two GYAN Stroms were used by Compass members Agnes Giebenrath and Hilda Harken. Agnes' GYAN Strom was deployed to the Aldrin Autonomous Region, where the remaining members of Blue Cosmos attacked.
Then sometimes later, during Battle of Eldore both Agnes and Hilda's GYAN Stroms were deployed to search and destroy the hiding Blue Cosmos members. While Hilda's GYAN Strom survived the battle after a set up by the Kingdom of Foundation, Agnes' GYAN Strom was collected by Shura Serpentine's NOG-M1A1 Shi-ve.A due to Agnes defecting to the Foundation, which later offered repairs and resupplies to the unit.[3]
During the battle at Requiem, Agnes' GYAN Strom was deployed along with the rest of the Black Knight Squad, and encountered the Impulse Gundam Spec II piloted by Lunamaria Hawke. The GYAN Strom was later defeated and crippled by the Impulse and crashed on the Moon's surface in a similar fashion of how Athrun Zala's ZGMF-X19A ∞ Justice Gundam crippled Shinn Asuka's ZGMF-X42S Destiny Gundam in the Battle of Messiah.[3]

- The GYAN Strom's name and design is derived from the YMS-15 Gyan from Mobile Suit Gundam.
- "Strom" is the German word for a large river; it can also refer to a current, whether it be water or electricity.
- Like the GELGOOG Menace, The Peregrinus Missile Launcher on its B.O.L.E.L.O Packs is named after a latin word, in this case the word for "wanderer".
- Hilda Harken's colors, aka the Mass Production colors is inspired by the YMS-15 Gyan color scheme.
- According to Director Mitsuo Fukuda, it was originally intended that Yzak Joule would be the pilot of the GYAN Strom, though changes in production led to Yzak becoming the pilot of the ZGMF-1027M Duel Blitz Gundam instead.
