The ZGMF-2025/F GELGOOG Menace is a mobile suit introduced in the animated film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
The ZGMF-2025/F GELGOOG Menace is a next-generation ZAFT mobile suit designed as the successor design to the ZGMF-1000 ZAKU Warrior. It shares many common components with its sister unit, the ZGMF-2027/A GYAN Strom, in order to reduce maintenance complexity and costs.
Armaments[]
- MMI-M635D Enhanced Beam Rifle
- A new model beam rifle that succeeds the ZGMF-1000 ZAKU Warrior's MMI-M633 beam rifle, used by the standard versions of the GELGOOG Menace.
- MMI-M6336E Enhanced Beam Rifle
- A variant of the MMI-M635D beam rifle, with an extended barrel designed for long-range sniping exclusively used by Lunamaria's unit. The beam rifle is stored on the back skirt when not in use.
- MAM-602 "Magnus Gladius" Beam Halberd
- A double-ended beam halberd that serves as the GELGOOG Menace's primary close-combat weapon, which produces flat, curved beam blades on both ends. When not in use, it is stored on the back skirt above the beam rifle rack.
- MMI-MD95/A "Refulgens" Beam Shield
- The Refulgens is a physical shield which has large gaps on each quarter of its face, acting as a frame within which beam shields can be projected to improve defense. The physical part of the shield can collapse in half when not in use to improve maneuverability.
- M71 "Peregrinus" 6-Tube Short Range Guided Missile Launcher
- A multiple tube missile launcher mounted on the B.O.L.E.L.O Atmospheric Pack. A standard B.O.L.E.L.O. loadout carries two of these missile launchers on the backpack.
- MAM-G3L1 "Infernus" LFPG
- A linear cannon mounted on the left side of the B.O.L.E.L.O Atmospheric Pack in lieu of one of the missile launchers.
- Type 35 Prototype Advanced Railgun
- A prototype high-powered handheld railgun, designed to combat the Femto-Technology Armor found on the Black Knight Squad's mobile suits. Multiple examples of this weapon were provided to Compass mobile suits fighting against the Kingdom of Foundation.
Special Equipment & Features[]
- The GELGOOG Menace is equipped with ZAFT's Wizard System, allowing it to adapt to various combat situations by exchanging backpack weapons and equipment.
- B.O.L.E.L.O.
- A newly designed backpack designed for ZAFT's next generation mobile suits, which provide enhanced mobility and firepower. Two variants exist, the "A" variant designed for atmospheric use, and the "S" variant for use in space. Both variants are made to use as many standardized components as possible to improve maintenance and production costs. The weapons on the backpack can be exchanged with different options as desired.
- Ballute System
- Special atmospheric reentry equipment for the GELGOOG Menace that allows it to drop into Earth's atmosphere from orbit without the need for a drop pod. The system is comprised of two large containers attached to the legs, which can deploy an inflatable ballute that protects the mobile suit from the heat of atmospheric reentry. The ballute system is then discarded upon the mobile suit reaching a safe altitude.
History[]
Several GELGOOG Menace units were given for use by the Compass peacekeeping organization to field test the design's combat performance. One was given to veteran ZAFT pilot Lunamaria Hawke for her personal use, while another two would be assigned to former DOM Trooper Team ace pilots Mars Simeon and Herbert Von Reinhard. Lunamaria's GELGOOG Menace would participate in several operations against Blue Cosmos, including the defense of Aldrin City, where it would be tasked with defending civilians, alongside Shinn Asuka's STTS-808 Immortal Justice Gundam.[1]
During a joint anti-Blue Cosmos operation by Compass, the Eurasian Federation, and the Kingdom of Foundation, Mars and Herbert would be engaged by the Black Knight Squad. Their GELGOOG Menaces would prove to be no match for the NOG-M4F Rud-ro.A's technological superiority, and both pilots would be killed in combat. Meanwhile, Lunamaria's GELGOOG Menace would be deployed to shoot down a nuclear missile headed towards Ishtaria, the Foundation’s capital, and while successful in shooting it down, a second missile slipped past her, forcing her to dive underwater to escape the impending blast.[1]
When the LHM-BB03S Millennium under Murrue Ramius launched an operation to rescue Lacus Clyne from Foundation captivity and destroy the Requiem superweapon, Lunamaria's GELGOOG Menace was handed down to Hilda Harken, whose ZGMF-2027/A GYAN Strom had been heavily damaged during the earlier battle in Eurasia, while Lunamaria switched to the ZGMF-56E2 Impulse Gundam Spec II.[1]
Hilda's GELGOOG Menace would sortie to defend the Millenium from Foundation mobile suits, and later the Black Knight Squad, where she would take advantage of the ZGMF/A-42S2 Destiny Gundam Spec II's afterimages to destroy Redelard Tradoll's Rud-ro.A "Garnet". Hilda's GELGOOG would later participate in the assault against the BCI-183 Gullveig alongside the Millennium.[1]
