The ZGMF-103HD Lightning Buster Gundam is a mobile suit introduced in the animated film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom. It is piloted by Dearka Elsman.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
The Lightning Buster Gundam is a modified GAT-X103 Buster Gundam that has been converted to run with a nuclear reactor[1]. The cockpit has also been upgraded to that of a ZAKU Warrior's[1]. Like the Buster, it is equipped with Missiles, Beam Cannons, Beam Guns, and other long-range weapons.

- Mounted on the back, these powerful long-range beam cannons flip upwards over the shoulders or down under the arms when in use.
- MMI-KX815 High-Energy Beam Gun
- Smaller beam weapons mounted on the waist, they swing forwards to fire.
- Type 77 Multi-Purpose Guided Missile Launcher (MPGML)
- A pair of 6-tube missile launchers on the backpack above the thrusters.

- Like the ZGMF-1027M Duel Blitz Gundam, the Lightning Buster can dock with the powerful METEOR unit, a large mobile weapons platform with powerful thrusters and an even more powerful armament of battleship-caliber beam cannons, large beam swords, and dozens of heavy missile launchers.
- An equipment that counters the effects of the ubiquitous Neutron Jammers and allows mobile suit to be powered by nuclear reactor, giving it almost limitless combat endurance.
History[]
The Lightning Buster, along with the ZGMF-1027M Duel Blitz Gundam were hidden away in a secret Terminal weapons cache in Boaz for use by ZAFT in emergencies. After a coup d'état forced the PLANT Supreme Council out of the PLANT Colonies, Yzak Joule would recover the Terminal weapons cache, and Dearka Elsman would pilot the Lightning Buster using METEOR Unit-08 to stop National Defense Committee Chairman Hari Jagannath's insurrection. The Lightning Buster would destroy the thrusters on Jagannath's ship, allowing the Duel Blitz to destroy the ship and prevent it from crashing into the LHM-BB03S Millennium.[2]

Notes & Trivia[]
- The Lightning Buster is an upgrade of the already existing Buster Gundam and not a new unit despite the replacement of the Buster's original assignation from GAT-X103 to ZGMF-103HD.
- Due to misinterpretations from fans talking about the movie during its initial release, it was believed that the Lightning Buster used the Lightning Striker Pack as part of its build, most likely due to assuming that it was like the Duel Blitz and combining two aspects.
- The Lightning Buster's lineart erroneously colors the orange stripe under its eyes the same tan color as the rest of its head. The initial stock photos of its High Grade model kit depicted the same color error. The final stock photos correctly portray the stripe as orange, but the actual model kit does not color separate or include stickers for the orange and molds it in tan plastic.
