The YRMS-106 Hi-Zack Pre-Production Type is a prototype mobile suit introduced in the photo-novel Advance of Zeta: The Flag of Titans.

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

The YRMS-106 Hi-Zack Pre-Production Type was the early test model of what would later become the RMS-106 Hi-Zack. It was developed by Anaheim Electronics based on the RX-106 Prototype Hizack. While the Prototype Hizack was a state-of-the-art machine, the Hi-Zack Pre-Production Type was made with mass production in mind and many of its parts were changed for that purpose. As the Titans organization expanded in response to rising threats from Zeon Remnants and the AEUG, there was an urgent need to increase mobile suit deployment. Following the Earth Federation Forces’ near-final decision to adopt the Hi-Zack, the Titans also initiated evaluation tests for its official adoption. However, the suit’s design—heavily reminiscent of Zeon’s iconic Zaku—was unpopular among pilots. Furthermore, due to lingering distrust toward Anaheim Electronics, the cockpit retained a conventional layout without a panoramic monitor.

As a pre-production unit, this model featured several differences from the later mass-production version. It sported a navy blue and black color scheme with yellow highlights. Unlike the standard Hi-Zack, its power pipes from the shoulder to the forearm were enclosed, while those running from the thigh to the leg thruster units remained exposed. The auxiliary leg thruster units were designed to be detachable, depending on mission requirements. Notably, the leg-mounted thrust deflector plates and the backpack-mounted versions seen on later models were absent, and the backpack’s heat sink was positioned downward.

The Titans Test Team, designated “T3,” was tasked with collecting combat data, particularly for the beam rifle. Early tests revealed power output issues, prompting the trial of a prototype beam rifle that used the same E-Pack system as the Gundam TR-1 [Hazel]. To accommodate this, an E-Pack holder was mounted on the forearm latch.

Armaments[]

  • Shoulder Shield
Mounted on the right shoulder, it is a simple defense used to block most physical projectiles.
  • Beam Rifle

History[]

The Hi-Zack entered service with the Earth Federation Forces in UC 0084, and a test evaluation unit, the Hi-Zack Pre-Production Type, was assigned to the Titans Test Team to investigate whether it should be adopted by the Titans as well. After some improvements based on the test results, this machine was officially adopted as the RMS-106 Hizack.

Variants[]

  • Black Hares Special Mission Specification
The Hi-Zack Pre-Production Type deployed by the Black Hares covert special forces featured unique specifications that set it apart from the standard Hi-Zack. These included a visor-type sensor on the head, additional chest armor, and a combat knife mounted on the left shoulder. These modifications reflect the Black Hares' specialized mission profile.
