The YMS-09 Prototype Dom is a prototype ground mobile suit and is the predecessor to the MS-09 Dom. The unit is piloted by Frederick Cranberry.
Technology & Combat Characteristics
The Prototype Dom was able to overcome the speed problems that affected previous ground combat mobile suits by hovering over the ground instead of actually walking on it. The Prototype Dom achieved the ability to hover with the addition of several thermonuclear jet engines placed in the soles of the feet, as well as the rear leg armor, and the rear skirt armor around its waist. While hovering, the Prototype Dom was able to reach a top ground speed of up to 240 kilometers per hour, a staggering difference when compared to the top ground speed of Zeon's MS-06J Zaku II Ground Types, which was only a little over 80 kilometers per hour. By hovering, the Prototype Dom not only achieved incredible speed, but also unparalleled maneuverability, able to skate back and forth over the ground with ease.
Armaments
- Heat Saber
- Like previous Zeon mobile suits the Prototype Dom is designed with a close range weapon based on heat rod technology. Its completely new heat saber bears a passing resemblance to a physical version of the beam saber of the Earth Federation's Gundam. It is a battery operated weapon stored on a back recharging rack.
- 360mm Giant Bazooka
- For the Prototype Dom's 'hit hard and hit fast' attack philosophy it was given as its main weapon a magazine-fed bazooka with a ten round mag.
History
When the Principality of Zeon's invasion of Earth itself began during the One Year War, one problem their military tried to address was developing a high-performance mobile suit for ground combat. Zimmad Company stepped forward with its revolutionary YMS-09 Prototype Dom. It is an entirely new design line built exclusively for ground combat.
Two Prototype Doms were constructed at Zimmad's facilities in Side 3 and they were both shipped to Zeon's California Base for testing. After the designs were field tested, the Prototype Dom was deemed to be a resounding success and the Principality of Zeon immediately ordered that the unit be mass produced as the MS-09 Dom.
