The xvm-fzc Gundam Legilis is a Vagan mobile suit introduced in the Kio Arc of Mobile Suit Gundam AGE. It is first piloted by Fezarl Ezelcant and later by Zeheart Galette, after he became the Supreme Leader of Vagan.

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

The first Gundam-type mobile suit developed by Vagan, the Gundam Legilis is built based on the data of the captured AGE-3O Gundam AGE-3 Orbital [1] combined with data obtained from EXA-DB.[2] As such, it has features of both Vagan and Gundam-type mobile suits in its design and weaponry. The Legilis has remarkable mobility thanks to the vernier thrusters mounted throughout its body, and has an escape unit known as the 'Legilis Core' which is inspired by the Gundam AGE-3's Core Block System. Its main head camera adopts the standard Vagan's slit-type for normal operations, but can expand into a Gundam-like twin-eye type to enhance the sensors' effective search area when its pilot's spatial awareness ability is awakened[3] or when the mobile suit is operating at full power.

The Legilis's ability to sympathetically resonate with X-Rounder pilot is superior to all older X-Rounder mobile suits, allowing it to perfectly follow the movements of even the most powerful X-Rounders. As a result, Zeheart Galette discarded the mask that restrained his X-Rounder powers when piloting the Legilis. In terms of armaments, the Legilis is equipped with some Gundam-like weapons, such as the Legilis Rifle and Legilis Shield. The Legilis Shield also contains the generator for the remote weaponry - Legilis Bits. The Legilis also features standard Vagan armaments, such as the Beam Vulcans/Beam Sabers, the Legilis Cannon, and the Beam Buster.

Armament[]

  • Beam Vulcan
Like the palm-mounted beam vulcans found on most Vagan mobile suits, the Gundam Legilis's head-mounted beam vulcans are rapid fire beam weapons capable of destroying most targets with enough shots.
  • Beam Buster
A powerful, chest-mounted beam weapon that can destroy a few mobile suits in one shot.
  • Beam Vulcan/Beam Saber
A small beam gun built into each palm, it has a high rate of fire and is capable of destroying mobile suits. Additionally, a beam saber can be emitted from the gun's muzzle for close combat. This is a common weapon for Vagan MS, and it also serves as a hardpoint for mounting the Legilis Rifle. The output of the Legilis' beam sabers can be increased when the mobile suit is operating at full power.
  • Legilis Cannon
A movable, tail-shaped beam cannon located on the rear waist. It can be positioned under either shoulders or in between the legs when in use, and possesses the power to destroy most mobile suits in one shot.
  • Legilis Rifle
A handheld beam rifle that functions as the Legilis's primary ranged weapon, its firepower is stronger than the regular beam rifle's.
  • Legilis Shield
An arm-mounted defensive armament that protects the Legilis from enemy attacks. It further boosts the suit's defensive capabilities as it already has the Electromagnetic Armor, a standard Vagan defense system. The Legilis Shield also contains the generator for the remote controlled beam weaponry known as Legilis Bits. This generator is an improved version of the xvt-zgc Ghirarga's X-Transmitters.
  • Legilis Bit
Generated from the Legilis Shield, the Legilis Bits are all-range beam particles remote controlled by X-Rounder's brainwaves. These bits can quickly take down an mobile suit squad with relative ease. They can also shield the Gundam Legilis from beam attacks by creating a barrier around it.

Special Equipment & Features[]

The Gundam Legilis uses a Core Block System reversed-engineered from the AGE-3O Gundam AGE-3 Orbital, dubbed the "Legilis Core". The Legilis Core consisted of the Legilis's head (which contains the Legilis' cockpit), inner torso, its back, and the the Legilis Cannon. It can detach from the Gundam Legilis during an emergency.

History[]

The Gundam Legilis was first deployed in battle when Fezarl Ezelcant used it to battle Kio Asuno's AGE-3 Gundam AGE-3 Normal and Asemu Asuno's AGE-2DH Gundam AGE-2 Dark Hound in an attempt to stop the former's escape from Second Moon. During the battle, the Legilis easily kept up with the Dark Hound, but Fezarl was forced to let Kio and Asemu go when the latter's space pirate group, Bisidian, threaten to drop asteroids on Second Moon. These asteroids were later revealed to be dummy balloons.

As Ezelcant's health began to deteriorate, he named Zeheart as his spiritual successor and passed both his staff, and the Legilis to him. Zeheart later took the Legilis on a trial run while searching for EXA-DB. Though he located his target, he was quickly attacked by its guardian, the unmanned mobile suit Sid. Asemu, who had a personal score against Sid, arrived later and the two reluctantly worked together. With Sid cloaking itself and continuously striking them from behind, Asemu used the Dark Hound's anchor shots to grab the mobile suit, giving Zeheart the opportunity to land a clean hit with his beam vulcans and allowing him to finish it with the Legilis's beam saber. After the battle, the two were at odds as Asemu wanted to destroy EXA-DB, and the pair dueled for control of the database. Asemu eventually prevailed as the Bisidian's mothership, the Baronche, destroyed the database while the pair were fighting.

Vagan later attacked the Earth Federation Forces using the space fortress La Gramis. As the Battle of La Gramis reached its climax, Zeheart launched in the Legilis to engage the three Gundams after his plan to use La Gramis' Digmazenon Cannon to destroy them failed. Zeheart's attacks on Kio's AGE-FX Gundam AGE-FX was stopped by Asemu. During the short but intense duel, Legilis's right arm was destroyed by the Dark Hound. Zeheart was further distracted when Asemu called out his former friend for sacrificing the very same friends he had sworn to protect, and the Legilis was severely damaged by the Dark Hound's attacks. Despite their enmity, Asemu doesn't kill Zeheart, and the two have a brief and emotional conversation before Zeheart kicks his damaged Legilis away from the Dark Hound. The Legilis then exploded, killing Zeheart.

Variants[]

  • Gundam Legilis (Zeheart Galette Custom)
Appearing exclusively in the Mobile Suit Gundam AGE: Memory of Eden compilation movie, it is the Gundam Legilis repainted in the "Martian Red" color scheme of Zeheart Galette, who had inherited the mobile suit from Fezarl Ezelcant after becoming the Supreme Leader of Vagan. It was used in the final battle between the Vagans and the Earth Federation, the Battle of La Gramis. After the second firing of the Digmazenon Cannon failed to destroy the Gundams, Zeheart decided to head out himself, and he used the Gundam Legilis to its full potential. The suit destroyed several Earth Federation's mobile suits and two Diva-class Mass Production Type, before ultimately being defeated by his old friend, Asemu Asuno with his AGE-2DH Gundam AGE-2 Dark Hound.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • Legilis' silhouette in the Gundam AGE's third title sequence suggest the presence of face vents, though it does not actually have any.
  • Legilis is the only Advanced Generation Gundam with a double V-fin.
  • The "fzc" in its model number is likely a reference to its pilot, Fezarl Ezelcant.
  • The likeness of Gundam Legilis briefly appeared in the Rooster Teeth Animated Adventure That's My Uncle!.
  • The Gundam Legilis appears in the Gundam Vs. series as a 3000 cost unit piloted by Zeheart. Aside from its own weaponry, Zeheart can also summon Fram Nara's Xvb-fnc Fawn Farsia for assistance.
