The XGF-01 Gundam Lfrith Pre-Production Model (XGF-01 ガンダム・ルブリス 量産試作モデル XGF-01 Gandamu Ruburisu Ryōsan Shisaku Moderu?) is a mobile suit introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury PROLOGUE [3]. Nadim Samaya piloted the unit designated LF-01 during the Vanadis Incident and Wendy Olent piloted the other unit [3].
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
The Lfrith was a machine that incorporated the GUND Format which was being developed by the Ochs Earth Corporation and Vanadis Institute.
This mass-produced prototype model was released as a "GUND-ARM", a new-generation mobile suit with high combat capabilities that could be demonstrated in any environment. However, the Mobile Suit Development Council saw dangers in pilot fatality risks caused by the GUND Format, resulting in the Vanadis Incident where military force was used to attack the development base. All of the GUND-ARMS, which were scorned as cursed mobile suits or "Gundams", were supposed to be completely scrapped alongside the destruction of the Vanadis Institute. Nevertheless, a considerable number of these units that were already in circulation remained, and it is said that several new types of Gundams were created using their components. Although the flame of the curse was thought to have been extinguished, its embers continued to smolder covertly until they flared up again 21 years later.
Armaments[]
Beam Vulcan[]
Two firing ports are built in the forehead. These are weak rapid firing beam weapons used for checking enemy movement, damaging equipment, etc [3].
Chelonian[]
Explosive GUND-BITs stored within the large launcher attached to the back. Once fired, these can be remotely controlled and attach to the target before detonating.
Beam Rifle[]
The unit's portable firearm. While it normally has average firepower, with the introduction of the GUND FORMAT, its shot precision increases tremendously, and its offensive abilities as a whole are raised to a high level.
Equipment[]
Shell Unit[]
This is a control terminal that enables transferring enormous amounts of data between the pilot and the MS. It emits light when the operating level of the GUND FORMAT reaches a certain level, such as when the GUND-BIT system is being used.
History[]
Vanadis Incident[]
At Fólkvangr, the Lfrith Pre-Production Models were kept in the laboratory alongside the XGF-02 Gundam Lfrith. Lfrith Pre-Production Models made an appearance on an INN news story that Nadim Samaya was watching whilst waiting for his family. Later, Wendy was by the Pre-Production Models when Nyla Bertran came to reuqest help moving cargo [3].
Nadim Samaya launched in LF-01. At Permet score two, he dodged all beams fired from Dominicus' CCP-068 Heingras. He then launched the Chelonian GUND-BITs at one of the Heingra, moving to Permet score three, destroying the suit and its pilot. Thus, the remaining Heingra pilots were ordered not to engage one-on-one due to these "unfamiliar swarm weapons". Wendy, who piloted the other Lfrith Pre-Production model to avenge Nyla, destroyed a Heingra with a beam. The Ulysses detected the second Gundam-type mobile suit to the port side in their travel direction, apparently confirming how many machines existed at Fólkvangr. Kenanji Avery then deployed in the CEK-040 Beguir-Beu [3].
Wendy engaged two Heingras, launching Chelonians and managed to destroy one. The other fired beams back at her as she evaded. She deactivated the Chelonian launchers as the side-effects of GUND took hold, such as markings on her face and rapid breathing. She had raised her score to dangerous levels but was still no match for the Beguir-Beu which used Non-Kinetic Pods to disable the GUND-BITs she had launched. With the GUND Format link suppressed, Wendy couldn't move her Gundam. Kenanji secured his Beguir-Beu by grabbing the Gundam's beam rifle with his right Foot Unit and stabbing his left bayonet's Sword Unit into the torso of the Gundam, firing the Double Beam Gun twice.
Later, the Beguir-Beu faced Elnora's Lfrith head-on with its bayonet's Sword Units. Kenanji deployed his Non-Kinetic Pods to disable it, but one was destroyed when Nadim entered firing Beam Vulcans. Nadim rammed his Gundam into the Beguir-Beu and pushed it away, telling Elnora and Ericht to flee as the Ulysses fired beams at them. Nadim leveled up to Permet score four. Rapidly breathing, he whited out. Still holding the Beguir-Beu, he sung Happy Birthday to Ericht until his last breath. The Beguir-Beu pushed away the motionless Lfrith Pre-Production Model and withdrew[3].
Space Assembly League and New Ochs Earth[]
At some point after the Vanadis Incident, the Space Assembly League secretly revived Ochs Earth to manufacture more Lfrith Pre-Production Models with the intent of suppressing the Benerit Group, the conglomerate that had developed from the Mobile Suit Development Council. Two of these models were developed into the EDM-GA-01 Gundam Lfrith Ur and EDM-GA-02 Gundam Lfrith Thorn, with the Ochs Earth pilots under codenames Sophie Pulone and Norea Du Noc, sent to the anti-Spacian terrorist organization Dawn of Fold.
In A.S. 122, Prospera Mercury travelled to the city of Quinharbor on Earth with Miorine Rembran and Guel Jeturk, with her own agenda. Using coordinates provided to her by her secretary Godoy, she located an Ochs Earth facility where Lfrith Pre-Production Models were being stored and destroyed them with the XVX-016RN Gundam Aerial Rebuild[2], as part of her hatred against Ochs Earth for trampling on GUND's ideals and for forcing her to transfer her daughter Ericht Samaya's biometric code into the mobile suit.

Notes & Trivia[]
- It is unknown if the Lfrith Pre-Production Model is developed from XGF-02 Gundam Lfrith. However, according to the info regarding the X-EX01 Gundam Calibarn, since the Lfrith was the winner for the next Ochs Earth main development of the mobile suit for GUND-ARM, the mass produced model may have been modeled after the XGF-02.
- It is also possible that the XGF-01 had already moved to mass production, since the news program showed a significant number of hospitalized pilots, implying that the XGF-02 may have been the prototype of the successor to the XGF-01
