Walter de Lament (ワルター・ド・ラメント) is a character introduced in the theatrical film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom.

After Lacus Clyne stepped down as the Supreme Council Chairwoman to become the first president of Compass, Walter was elected as the new Supreme Council Chairman. In C.E. 75, after the meeting with Lacus and Commander Hari Jagannath, chairman of the PLANT National Defense Committee, Walter and Lacus had a conversation and talked about Kira Yamato's personality.[1]
Following the Eldore Incident, Walter and other world leaders demanded an explanation from Cagalli Yula Athha over both Kira's decision to trespass Eurasian Federation territory, and the Eurasian Federation's nuclear missiles being fired. Walter and other leaders would collectively agree to have all Compass activities suspended until further notice. The world leaders would receive a devastating surprise when Foundation ordered the destruction of Moscow, the Eurasian Federation's capital with the repaired Requiem, using the nuclear strike on Eldore as a pretext. They quickly contacted to demand what had just happened, but their meeting was interrupted by Orphee Lam Tao, who urged that all Coordinators join Foundation as brothers to push humanity into the next stage of evolution.[1]
Concurrently, PLANT Intelligence Division Commander Yzak Joule, quietly pulled Walter from the meeting as a Foundation-backed coup d'état, led by Jagannath, was now underway. Yzak, alongside his entourage would successfully bring Walter to the FFMH-Y101 Eternal, where former Supreme Council Chairwoman, Eileen Canaver, and former PLANT representative Ezalia Joule, were waiting. The group agreed that with Requiem still active, they could not risk an immediate attack and headed over to the repaired Boaz, waiting for an opportunity to stop the coup.[1]
After Walter sent Yzak and Dearka Elsman into the Moon to stop Jagannath and his fleet, their chance would arrive when Requiem was disabled by the ORB-01 Akatsuki Gundam and Jagannath departed to defend Requiem. With Andrew Waltfeld's help, Walter's loyalist forces quickly regained control of PLANT, and he would make a public declaration of Jagannath's treachery, as well as ordering all coup d'état forces to return to their original post.[1]
