Unseen Trap (みえない地雷, Unseen Trap^?) is the fourth episode of Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury. It aired in Japan on October 23, 2022 17:00 JST on MBS and TBS, and was simulcast at 09:00 UTC by Ani-One Asia, and GundamInfo, and then at 09:30 UTC by Crunchyroll.

Synopsis

Bewildered by Guel's sudden proposal, Suletta panics and flees from the scene. Everyone is astonished by Guel's behavior, but Chuchu, a student from Earth House, stares at him with cold indifference.

Suletta wins her duel against Guel who then proposes to her. Miorine and Earth House are both shocked. Shaddiq and Secelia both laugh, Vim has no words and Lauda finds it nonsensical. Suletta stutters and Guel pulls away his hands about to clarify what he means. Suletta runs back to the Aerial's cockpit and launches. Guel notices the Haro drone camera, realising it broadcast his proposal to the whole school. He begs for the camera to be turned off. It is the first time Lilique Kadoka Lipati has seen someone propose. For Martin Upmont, it is the first rejection he's seen, too. Chuchu (who had been cheering Suletta on) scoffs because the duel turned out to be a lovers' quarrel, a sign of Spacians leading carefree lives.

Representatives from five other companies meet with Vim Jeturk on Meet Cam. One of the representatives rhetorically asks if they can expect Guel can recover his status as heir to the Benerit Group. To Vim it is without question despite the representatives pointing out that he's already lost twice to the child of a miner from Mercury. If they don't see results from Jeturk soon, they'll have to cut back on Jeturk's funding. Vim ends the meeting and bangs his desk, enraged by that "witch".

Class is about to begin and Miorine wonders why Suletta is dressed in a normal uniform. Miorine borrows her student notebook and taps the "Registrations" button. Suletta's uniform becomes white. Miorine reminds her that the Holder has a special uniform as well as a unique pilot suit. Miorine thinks she should realize who she is now; the reigning Holder and Miorine's bridegroom. Three female students ask Suletta her intentions towards Guel and why she turned down the proposal if she could get into a rich family. The girls leave when Guel himself arrives in the classroom. Guel denies any feelings he has for Suletta. In compliance with the terms of the duel, Guel humbly apologizes to Miorine Rembran for his boorish behaviour the other day and for damaging her greenhouse. Guel leaves the classroom at the request of the teacher.

Students work in teams of three (a pilot, mechanic and spotter) to get a Demi Trainer across a field of land mines. Reiko Hamlet takes their Demi Trainer with a purple cockpit hatch across the field. Optical images restricted to the visible spectrum and all other sensors are to be turned off. They can use ground-penetrating radar to locate the simulated land mines. Their spotter detects is a land mine 15 meters ahead and advises them to go around it at two o'clock. A Demi Trainer with a red cockpit hatch exchanges weapons. It is Suletta's turn but the instructor immediately grades her as a fail for not having a mechanic or spotter (recruiting team members is part of her assignment). The instructor suggests she asks around her house. Olta Shubacca, piloting a Demi Trainer with a blue cockpit hatch, successfully destroys a simulated land mine, receiving a passing grade. Understanding what she must do, she clears the starting position. Chuchu starts the assignment in MSJ-105CC Chuchu's Demi Trainer. She promises Nika, her mechanic, to clear it in two minutes. Nuno, her spotter, tells her of a land mine 20 degrees to her left and then one three steps ahead, 15 degrees to her right. Chuchu thinks the assignment is easy and has nearly reached the exchange area but her monitor goes suddenly goes black. Chuchu's Demi Trainer slides down a slope, detonating a land mine. She is given a failing grade. Nuno turns around to see two bullies making discriminatory comments towards Earthians. Chuchu find slow-acting masking spray on the mono-eye of her Demi Trainer, she throws her helmet in anger.

Nika, Lilique and Aliya walk down the stairwell. They see a student declining to work with Suletta because he doesn't want to make enemies in Jeturk house. Knowing that Nika is in mechanics, Suletta asks her. Lilique rhetorically asks if she knows they are Earthians. Suletta misunderstands replies with the definition of Earthian. Nika respectfully declines as she has to help a junior (Chuchu) with her makeup exam.

Since Nika is already on another team, she takes Suletta to Earth House. The goat living there, Giko, bleats at Suletta. Aliya scolds Giko as she walks past. Suletta mistakes Giko as the one to help her. Nika takes Suletta to Chuchu's Demi Trainer which is being maintained by Ojelo and Nuno, who recognise her as the Holder from her uniform. Nika explains to Martin that Suletta having trouble finding staff for the exercise and asks Ojelo and Nuno to help her. They know Suletta is a Spacian but Nika says she's not like other Spacians for she does not look down on them. Till offers to become her spotter.

Chuchu pets Giko on the head and notices what her fellow Earth House members are doing. Lilique Kadoka Lipat, Martin Upmont (House leader), Aliya, Till (called "quiet" by Aliya despite having just spoke) all formally introduce themselves to Suletta. Chuchu interrupts Ojelo and Nuno's introductions by hitting a wrench into a wall. Upset that a Spacian is in Earth House, she throws the wrench, almost hitting Suletta.

A transport takes the Daribalde away. Lauda apologizes to his brother, who has been stripped of his ace pilot status. Lauda has no choice but to obey their dad's orders and Guel agrees it's best not to disobey their dad further.

By evening, Suletta frets at the bottom of some stairs. Elan, who finds Suletta far too easy to read, invites Suletta to come to Peil House since the exam is something she can't do on her own. Suletta is glad, however, Miorine is not happy, calling Elan an enemy. Miorine puts her right arm around Suletta and explains the members of the three branches only care about getting their hands on her. Elan declares that he couldn't be less interested. Miorine insults Elan as a "dummy prince". Miorine comes to Elan's defense by stating he's gentle and kind. Elan clarifies to Miorine that she's only recruiting team members for exam. Knowing the truth, Miorine makes a counteroffer.

Miorine takes Suletta to her own room, which used to to be the Chairman's office. Miorine took it over from her father and unlike other students, does not belong to a house. Suletta feels concerned since she needs both a mechanic and a spotter. Miorine offers to take care of both by herself. Suletta is surprised as she thought Miorine was in management strategy. Later, Miorine finishes memorizing a manual on her tablet. Impressed, Suletta asks her to teacher her Mobile Heavy Machinery Principles, handing over her tablet. Miorine looks at what she's reading and feels more concerned because it's just the basics. Suletta promises to do her best.

Earthians protest in favour of Earthian rights, against Spacian oppression and capitalism. Through a loudspeaker, a protestor states that Earth residents have devoted nearly a century's worth of taxes and labor to the pursuit of the space industry and yet Spacians haven't given them any economic compensation, just poverty and a food crisis. Riot police are told to withdraw AR units to the picket line. Mobile suit teams are authorized to use gas shells. A Dilanza Sol and a Heindree Sturm fire shells directly into the crowd of protestors. The protestors run away and a car explodes as the Dilanza Sol steps on it. The riot police begin their advance to suppress and apprehend the protestors. Four Zowort Heavies fly above the city on Tickbalangs. Another Dilanza Sol also suppresses protests on neighbouring road.

The protests appear on INN as breaking news. It is framed as demonstrators turning violent inside Earth facility and rising Earthian extremism. A journalist reports that yesterday, business administrative laws were enforced against an illegal occupation. Eight agitators were arrested and multiple weapons (Molotov cocktails, an umbrella, metal and wooden poles) were confiscated, Ojelo watches the report with Nuno and Martin. He asks what is wrong with Earthains using Earthian factories. Martin says it can't be helped as all the major media companies rely on Spacian capital. According to Nuno, they think Earthians should just shut up and work without popular benefits. Martin wonders where Chuchu is.

Chuchu is video calling six Earthian workers on her student notebook. She sits the dark wearing a night cap. The workers ask her about school and if the Spacians have given her any trouble. It is nothing Chuchu can't handle, just yesterday she fought off a gang of them to tired to mouth off. They are proud of Chuchu, but she wants to talk about what she saw in the news. The workers want Chuchu to not worry about them, telling her to just work hard on her studies; show them what craft operators can do. She thanks everyone.

Miorine is sleeping but tapping noises wake her up. Miorine leaves her bed to see Suletta catching up on her studies by the plants. Miorine asks her why she works so hard. She tells Miorine her dream to found a school at Mercury. There used to be some but there are so few people now. Miorine infers it's because Permet can be mined on the Moon as well, these days. Suletta thought of a school to get young people to come to Mercury. The people on Mercury were so happy with her idea that they said they were counting on her and waiting. They even gave her good luck charms and messages. Miorine sees it as a drag that she has to carry that burden, believing that she should live for herself. Miorine goes back to sleep, finding it admirable that this is what Suletta wants to do. Suletta wishes her good night,

The two pranksters from earlier repeat their act of sabotage on Suletta's Demi Trainer by using the slow-acting masking spray again. The alarm rings, both Suletta and Miorine rush to the Demi Trainer. Miorine notes that's she's still an amateur and performing to roles; it is Suletta's job to clear the assignment. On a service bridge, she encounters pilot Chuchu, mechanic Nika and spotter Nuno. Seeing that the "Princess" is helping her, Chuchu asks why Suletta came to their House, calling her a "Spacian turd". Nika tries to calm Chuchu but Miorine confronts Chuchu for the insult, saying she's no different from those who discriminate against Earthians. The pranksters stand next to their pilot, giggling at the commotion between their victims.

The makeup exam begins. Students board their Demi Trainers and assemble at the designated point. Suletta is first and her Demi Trainer walks across the ground. The pranksters watch with binoculars and laugh. Miorine calculates the soil conditions and informs Suletta there's a landmine 30 meters ahead. Suletta passes the first mine. Getting a response 18 meters ahead and 10 degrees, Miorine instructs Suletta to turn right. She stays on that course and is careful of changes in terrain. The masking spray begins to act, blackening the mono-eye of Suletta's Demi Trainer. She has to stop. Chuchu spots the two pranksters celebrating. Miorine respectfully requests the instructor to suspend the exam because they're experiencing machine trouble. The instructor declines because advance inspection is part of the assignment. Miorine tells Suletta to use her instrument readings to figure out the direction while guiding her to the exchange area. Since there's a land mine 20 meters to Suletta's left, Miorine tells her to go right. Unfortunately, time is up so Suletta Mercury receives a fail.

For the retry, the land mines have changed position so Suletta must find a route to the right. The autonomous altitude control balances Suletta's Demi Trainer so she shouldn't need to worry unnecessarily. Miorine asks Nuno if there is nothing they can do. Nuno replies that the slow-acting masking spray can't be removed easily, with Chuchu as an example. Suletta retries three more times, and gradually improves her time. Since Suletta makes it to the exchange area, Miorine gets on her scooter to fulfil the mechanic role, giving Nuno the spotter role. Suletta finishes exchanging weapons and exits the exchange area for the second part of the assignment but she is too late.

Chuchu gets impatient because she can't even start her test. Suletta has had enough. She was actually afraid to come to school alone and I doesn't want to duel either and I doesn't want to stand out. As I she is now, she'll never graduate. Suletta cries. To get Suletta to retry again, Miorine reminds her of her dream to found a school, the people on Mercury counting on her, even giving her good-luck charms when they saw her off. Chuchu listens to this conversation. The pranksters laugh at Suletta, disparaging her as a "country bumpkin". Chuchu, who now knows that Suletta is carrying someone else's hopes and dreams, leaves her Demi Trainer and knocks one of the pranksters unconscious with a right hook to the head. Nuno, Miorine and Suletta all take notice. Chuchu exchanges blows with the remaining prankster. Nuno arrives at the firstfight on his scooter and Suletta in her Demi Trainer, both try to break up the fight but the prankster punches Suletta in the face. The prankster pauses and blacks out when Chuchu comes at her with another right hook.

Spotters/mechanics Miorine, Nuno and Nika wait for the results outside. Chuchu and Suletta still failed so they have to take another makeup exam. Chuchu blames Suletta for having to take another one, too so she apologizes. Nika formally invites Suletta to join Earth House, pressuring Chuchu to accept with a smile. Chuchu reluctantly agrees. Although Chuchu is a first-year student, in House terms, she is Suletta's senior. Nika whispers Suletta Chuchu's nickname but she still stutters. Chuchu tells Suletta to speak up.
