Type S2 influenza (S2型インフルエンザ) is a disease in the Cosmic Era.
Overview[]
Type S2 influenza is a mutation of the known Type S influenza which caused existing vaccines to become useless, unleashing an outbreak.
History[]
After the outbreak, rumors begin to spread suggesting Coordinators created this virus to exterminate the Naturals to avenge the late George Glenn; religious authorities, on the other hand, claim that the Type S2 influenza outbreak is a divine punishment, turning public opinion against genetic modification once again. On October 19, C.E. 55, PLANT scientists from the city of Februarius developed a vaccine and successfully mass produced it, ending the outbreak. However, even though the outbreak was ended by Coordinators, hostile sentiments against Coordinators still rose, resulting in more and more Coordinators relocating to space.
In C.E. 71, Type S2 Influenza saw a resurgence at several Lagrange 4 colonies. A potential second outbreak was halted by the Junk Guild delivering vaccine to the infected colonies.[1]
