The Tri-Stars Team was a mobile suit team introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn.

Overview[]

The Tri-Stars Team was an elite mobile suit team of Londo Bell and consists of team leader Lieutenant Nigel Garrett, Lieutenant Junior Grade Daryl McGuinness, and Lieutenant Junior Grade Watts Stepney. The team was stationed aboard the Londo Bell flagship, the Ra Cailum.[1]

Originally, the team were test pilot candidates for the UC Project. When the project was halted, each member of the team switched to the support unit RGM-96X Jesta,[1] with Watts Stepney later modifying his Jesta into the RGM-96X Jesta Cannon.

History[]

Third Neo Zeon War[]

Formed sometime prior to U.C. 0096, the team was assigned to the Londo Bell flagship Ra Cailum, and served under the command of Captain Bright Noa. The team was deployed during the Third Battle of Dakar to engage the attacking Zeon Remnant forces. However, by the time the Ra Cailum arrived the Zeon Remnants were beginning their retreat. The Tri-Stars later engaged those same Zeon Remnants, bolstered by additional forces, at the Second Battle of Torrington. The aged mobile suits of the Zeon Remnants fared poorly against the far superior Jestas, allowing the team to make quick work of the attackers. During the battle, the Zeon Remnant commander, Yonem Kirks, impaled his sniper rifle into his MS-05L Zaku I Sniper Type, intending to set off the suit's reactor. The Tri-Stars moved in to stop the explosion, destroying the machine and killing Kirks.

The following day, the team was ordered to guard the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam while it was being transported to the Garuda. However, the Tri-Stars were under secret orders from Bright Noa to allow the Unicorn to escape and hold back against its Zeon allies in the Garencieres. Some time later, the Ra Cailum went into space to track down the Garencieres, and eventually found it. When the ship refused to stop, Watts Stepney positioned his new Jesta Cannon in front of it and proceeded to fire his suit's array of weapons at the vessel to get it to stop. The Garencieres then exploded, the Tri-Stars realizing that the ship was unmanned and used to distract the Ra Cailum. Later, after learning that Gryps II had been repaired and reactivated, Bright Noa ordered the Ra Cailum to head straight for Cheyenne Mountain. Once arrived, the Tri-Stars immediately moved in to incapacitate the guarding mobile suits.
