The Transpack System is a technology that appears in Advance of Zeta Re-Boot: Gundam Inle.
Overview[]
The Transpack System is a system that allows a mobile suit’s specifications to be changed by swapping out its backpack. Various mission-specific packs exist, including those designed for medium-range support, reconnaissance, and others. One notable example is the Boost Pod-equipped backpack developed for the Gundam TR-1, which can mount interchangeable pods. These pods can be configured with additional thrusters (Shield Boosters), weapons such as cannons or missile launchers, and G-Parts like full boosters, making the system highly versatile. These variations are collectively referred to as “Transpack” variations.[1]
The concept traces its roots back to the Gelgoog-type mobile suits of the Principality of Zeon, which employed modular backpack systems. After the One Year War, the Earth Federation Forces refined and expanded on this idea, incorporating backpack-based configuration changes into mobile suit designs from the earliest stages of development. The RMS-106 Hizack, the Earth Federation Forces' first mainstay mobile suit developed after the One Year War, was designed so that its specifications could be altered simply by swapping out the backpack. Furthermore, by ensuring backpack compatibility with the GM series, the design allowed for increased operational flexibility across different units.[1]
The Multi-Connector Pod is a connector equipment on the upper back that can be replaced to accommodate various specifications. This system is the core of the Transpack System, and was tested on the RMS-117 Galbaldy β High Mobility Type before being passed on to the Advanced Hazel. Some weapons are attached via a multi-weapon rack. Like the Gundam TR-1 and Gundam TR-6, it is one of the systems that ensures versatility by allowing for the installation of a variety of option parts.[2]
This system was primarily developed by the Titans Test Team (T3 unit). Initial development and field testing began with the RGM-79CR, followed by the YRMS-106 Hi-Zack Pre-Production Type. The data gathered from these tests directly informed the development of officially adopted Hizack variants. From this process emerged a core concept: "specialized equipment compatibility within a general-purpose mobile suit."[1]
This concept is deeply related to the TR Project, aligning with the broader aim of creating counterweapons to rival enemy mobile weapons. It ultimately culminated in the Gundam TR-6, which incorporated a parts-replacement system. The Transpack System thus represents the embodiment of mobile suit versatility, and the TR-6 stands as the culmination of this technology concept at the time.[1]
Multi-Transpack System[]
The Multi-Transpack System is a system developed to enable models of Earth Federation Forces mobile suits—originally incompatible with the standard Transpack System—to utilize backpack units. This is achieved by inserting a spacer-like joint part between the mobile suit's back and the backpack connection point. Functionally similar to the arm at the tip of the Bellows Frame, this joint features a large claw-shaped sub-arm that secures both the MS body and the backpack. Power and operating systems are connected via connectors located within the arm.[3]
This mechanism allows the jointed parts to move in sync with the backpack even after separation, enabling adjustment of thrust direction and propulsion. Technical and OS data for this system was accumulated through testing conducted by the Black Hares team with the RX-122 Gundam Kelderek.[3]
The same technology was later adapted for use in the Gundam TR-6, supporting compatibility with a wide range of Earth Federation equipment and enabling alternate configurations through limb part replacement. As such, the Multi-Transpack System forms an integral component of the Gundam TR-6’s Universal Replacement System, and serves as one of the core technological foundations of the TR Project’s parts replacement system.[3]
History[]
While the Titans Test Team operated the Transpack System using the TR-1’s backpack and tested various reinforcement parts, a parallel development effort was underway by the Black Hares. Focused on advancing the Universal Replacement System, the Black Hares used the Gundam Kelderek as a base unit and conducted operational testing of equipment replacement. The Primrose's Multi-Transpack System was then developed for its advanced model, the Kelderek Owsla.[3]
