Though originally surrounded by nothing but dry wilderness, a city had been built near the base at some point after U.C. 0083. After the [[Third Battle of Dakar]], the Neo Zeon remnant group, the [[Sleeves]], decided to launch an attack on Torrington Base after discovering the La+ Program's coordinates. An Earth-based Zeon remnants group worked with The Sleeves, and commanded by [[Yonem Kirks]], led the assault. Using an old One Year War radio code, he requested assistance from the other Zeon remnants so as to "give the Feds the shock of their lives". The [[Juneau-class]] ''Bonefish'' while on patrol off the coast of eastern Australia was attacked and sunk by the [[AMA-X7 Shamblo]] and two [[AMS-129M Zee Zulu]] heading to the base. The next morning, the Zeon remnants launched a surprise attack on the base. Receiving Torrington's distress call, the [[Londo Bell]] warship ''[[Ra Cailum-class|Ra Cailum]]'' that was investigating the ''Bonefish'''s disappearance immediately changed its course. At first, the assault proceeded according to plan, the EFGF was caught off guard and thrown into disarray from the ferocity of the attack. However, the Shamblo, which was supposed to support the advance, changed course to attack the nearby city on its own as its pilot, [[Loni Garvey]], was obsessed with revenge. The tide turned when the [[RX-160S Byarlant Custom]] and the Tri-Stars - an elite trio of pilots stationed on board the ''Ra Cailum'', launched into battle. The fight subsequently turned in the favor of the Federation and the Zeon remnants were defeated.
