  • Good to have found another Gundam and Gundam Wing afficionado here. It also looks like you're doing a clean sweep of the Gundam Wing section, which has needed it for quite some time. Not only that, you seem to like setting Gundam up against a real-world backdrop, which is another thing I specialize in.

We seem to have intermingled interests, you and I. Howbout we get to know each other a bit, if that's alright to ask? I'd love a good one on one.

    • You specialize in analyzing Gundam from a real-world viewpoint as well? Intriguing. Let's definitely compare notes sometime!

Yes, the Gundam Wing section needs some clean-up. I believe much of the clusterfuck can be blamed on all the manga iterations, especially the new ones ("Glory of the Defeated" and "Frozen Teardrop"). People are getting confused, and I don't blame them! I'll do my best to clarify some things. I don't know if I'll touch any of the other Gundam sections yet but that remains to be seen. As long as things are canonical and accurate I'll leave them alone. :)

    • Always Happy to have more people dedicated to the Gundam scene, especially when it comes to canonical info.

I'd certainly love to. Hit me up sometime. Or maybe I'll do the same. Would you happen to have a Skype or anything in case the Wiki Messaging gets overbearing?

And I think the problem stems more from a combination of lacking in updates and an increasing amount of source material. Though from Glory of the Defeated (so glad you call it that instead of Glory of Losers, by the way, it just sounds so much more complete) and Frozen Teardrop (unfortunately), most of the previous Gundam Wing manga may be canceled out in terms of official status, depending on what Sunrise/Bandai decides to do with them.

    • I don't use Skype often but this site does have a handy dandy chat feature. Or my email might be listed on here. I agree with your analysis: GW does have a lot of source material. Too much, I think. As fun as it is to engage so thoroughly in the fandom, it's frustrating to have to track everything down. I wish the complete GW storyline were not so spread out among different manga and novelizations. What's this about Sunrise/Bandai canceling certain manga out? I got a recent Sunrise update and heard nothing of the sort. I would think with Glory of the Defeated (I hate the other title, too) and Frozen Teardrop coming out recently, along with all the new Gundam model kits, that some type of series relaunch is in the works, which would be appropriate given the 20th anniversary is coming up. I've heard rumors to that effect, mostly about FT becoming an OVA. To which I say, dear lord, I hope not. But I digress. :) Let's hope if there is ever a GW reboot that it encompasses the entire story - character backgrounds and so forth - that is choppily divvied up across the manga universe in the most annoying way possible. Arrrgh. Do you watch Unicorn? :)

    • Not seeing your email anywhere and I don't use this site's chat option all that much (or at all, really).

Oh, when I was referring to Sunrise/Bandai possibly canceling certain manga out, I meant there being a [slim] possibility of them turning Glory of the Defeated and Frozen Teardrop into the new canon. While unlikely, given their policy on official Gundam material (the animated works), I've found that Glory of the Defeated has actually done better to document some aspects of the series, and well as much of the exposition seemingly left unadressed during the course of the show. As I said though, the liklihood is slim. Speaking of GotD, that manga made me fall in love with Heavyarms again. I swear, it's been getting the best panels and page work. I guess it's because it won't be showing up again for a considerable amount of time soon...

A series relaunch would be pretty nice. The only thing I'm not really looking forward to however is the Wing Zero Custom's return as the bona fide Wing Zero. I much prefer the TV version. It's rather unfortunate that some of Wing's dub cast has left Gundam or anime voice acting, though. I'd have loved to hear what a more quality redub of Wing would be like, now that I'm sure the team wouldn't have approached it as awkwardly as they did [sometimes] the first time around, despite it still being a decent dub.

And yes, I do watch Unicorn! Fantastic, is all I can say at the moment, barring the rushed pacing during Episodes 4 and 5. Really looking forward to the conclusion, now that they've gotten most of the exposition they needed to build for the upcoming action out of the way. Still immensely irritated that the Jestas haven't done anything worth a damn yet, though.

    • Email aerisfantasy07@gmail.com for now. And I thought that in Japan there is no notion of "canon" the way we use the term here? Some say the Sunrise policy is that if it ain't animated, it ain't official, in which case Glory and Teardrop could be thrown out. I could easily argue then that Duo and Hilde, say, have no romantic relationship despite the fact that they marry, have a son and divorce, because that only happens in a novel, ergo it's not official. Most Wing fans I talk to despise FT because of how it contradicts previous iterations, so it would be interested if it became gospel truth in the Wing world. With Glory incorporating so much data from FT, it seems more than likely. To which I say boo. :P

I love the GW dub despite its many flaws (oh, General Septem). It's interesting how Mark Hildreth's voice - he sounds the same in everything he does, animated or otherwise - completely defined the character of Heero Yuy for viewers as stoic and emotionless. Have they not watched the show in Japanese? :P If there is a reboot I highly doubt Hildreth or some of the others would return, which is a shame. But listen to Brad Swaile... Dude could voice Heero AND Quatre. Hell, he could probably do them all. He was spectacular as Setsuna and is doing amazing work with Banagher Links.

I refer to Unicorn as Gundam porn. Unbelievable. This is how every series should be. If GW got a reboot and looked anything like that... Swoon. Imagine Wing Zero Custom then!

    • Thanks for the email. Expect something from wandering-scorpion@hotmail.com in the forseeable future, probably before you get a new one. ;D

Yeah, there is no real notion of 'canon' in Japan as there is over in the West. But their stance on what's 'official' and what's not does pertain to animated works.

B-but General Septem was the best part of the dub! It's fun to take his voice seriously because you can laugh at it while he's speaking. Also Unicorn is being dubbed by NYAV Post, as opposed to Ocean Studios. NYAV, like other voice acting companies in the US, usually dub Gundam OVAs and films as opposed to Ocean's doing the shows. The person voicing Banagher in Unicorn is Steve Staley, the one who voiced Shiro Amada in 08th MS Team - still doing an amazing job regardless.

I agree on your consensus with Unicorn. The story as it is isn't the greatest as a result of the issues of adapting a novel series into an animated work, but it's got it where it counts in terms of animation and mecha combat. Brilliant stuff, probably some of the best since 0083. Music's incredibly fetching too.

I can imagine Wing Zero Custom in modern animation... I guess I just dislike it because of the rather ridiculous wings and overly blue color scheme with those unnecessary red spikes jutting out from its forearms. It's a nice clean design that evokes an ethereal silhouette, but I feel it's too rounded compared to its TV counterpart. All the other Endless Waltz redesigns are pretty okay in my book, though. Especially Heavyarms...

    • I goofed on Banagher's voice actor... blame my editor at the Herald who told me when I asked. :P But Steve Staley is also amazing. I looove Shiro Amada. :D

The music in Unicorn is pretty amazing. I need to find the soundtracks. For now I listen to the music on YouTube.

Heavyarms does look fan-flipping-tastic in Endless Waltz. I agree!

I'll check my email. I'm tired of agruing silly things with people on this page. :P I'm going to assemble a team to keep making edits to certain Wikis so that they "stay" a certain way. Yep, I'm psycho.

    • We use to have a Wing and G Gundam editor, but I don't know whatever happened to them, they probably got busy with life. They did the majority of the Frozen Teardrop page.
