Techcs Farzenberg is a fictional character from the After War Gundam X anime.
Personality & Character[]
Techcs is the oldest member of the Freeden. This age comes with wisdom and experience, attributes that he shares with the younger members of the crew. He is a constant voice of reason amongst the ship and often provides counselling to those who are troubled, even former enemies such as Ennil El.
Though he prefers to heal people, he is not above self-defence and is ready to use a gun when the situation calls for it.
Profile[]
Techcs Farzenberg is a medically trained doctor that survived the end of the 7th Space War. Following the war, he put his skills to use as a doctor treating the injured, eventually finding his way into the company of Jamil Neate. Joining with the famous Vulture captain, Techcs became the ships doctor for the crew of the Freeden and became aware of Jamil's the cause to protect Newtypes from being used in the same way that they were during the 7th Space War.
Life as a Vulture[]
When Tiffa Adill becomes traumatised after using the Gundam X's Satellite Cannon and faints, Techs treats her aboard the Freeden. He advises Jamil not to get into any firefights as she recovers in order to avoid aggravating her condition.[1] Tiffa is soon injected with an unknown substance by Olba, and though Techcs was unaware of this, he assessed that Tiffa would only have another week to live if her condition continued to deteriorate. He stayed with her while Jamil explained his circumstances on the bridge and notice Garrod Ran sneaking up on him. Rather than fighting him, he leaves and lets Garrod stay with Tiffa.[2] He is forced to watch as Tiffa is kidnapped by Olba Frost in the Gundam Ashataron.[3]
After Garrod causes an accident which injures Nine and other members of the crew, Techcs treats them and calms them down after they get angry at Garrod for not apologizing. He later tells Jamil that not punishing Garrod for his actions was a mistake, as Garrod is not used to receiving kindness from people. He explains that is Garrod was to feel bad, he may do something reckless again. His fear is proved to be justified as Garrod heads to a nuclear power plant on an unauthorized salvage mission.[4] After Jamil is seriously injured by the rubble from the nuclear explosion, Techcs treats him and commands the others not to move the ship in the meantime. The operation is a success. When Techcs later returns to the sickbay, he finds a distraught Garrod peering inside. When he calls out to him, Garrod runs away and after seeing Tiffa alone with the unconscious Jamil, Techcs figures out what is going on.[5]
As Sala Tyrrell explains the situation with Witz Sou to Techcs, Tiffa comes to the sickbay to visit Jamil but is scared away by Sala's scowl. Sala herself was unaware that she was scowling at Tiffa and only noticed after Techcs pointed it out. He later tells Tiffa that she can come in as Sala is gone and that she shouldn't have hurt Sala's feelings by leaving as soon as she saw her. He advises her to put herself in the shoes of the people around her.[6] When the Freeden comes under attack and is trapped by flames, he regrets his earlier order not to move the ship. After Jamil wakes up and overcomes the enemy, Techcs marvels at his plan and brings him back to the sickbay. He informs Witz and Roybea Loy about their decision to keep them under their payroll while they wait for Jamil to recover.[7]
Fort Severn[]
On the way to Fort Severn, he makes a bet with Roybea which allows him free membership for the new recreation room if he beats him in a game of pool. He ends up winning.[8] After the trio of Gundam pilots are taken out by Carris Nautilus, he is seen treating Garrod. He is called to Jamil's office later, and along with Kid Salsamille, is requested by the captain to help him overcome his cockpit phobia. As the maintenance team collapses from exhaustion after repairing the Airmaster and Leopard and upgrading the X, Techcs is seen treating them.[9] He is sceptical when Jamil allows Garrod to head to Fort Severn in an attempt to rescue Tiffa.[10] After Garrod is tricked into shooting Carris Nautilus, Techcs treats him. After the battle against Fort Severn is decided, he tells Garrod about Carris' synapse syndrome.[11]
Zonder Epta[]
Techcs treats Tiffa after she goes into mild shock caused by stress.[12] When she tries to help Garrod and Kid with some manual labour around the ship, Techcs gives her some lighter medical supplies to take to the sickbay. Garrod tries to help but Techcs stops him, telling him that she is trying to open up. When Garrod tells the others about the rumoured Sea of Lorelei, Techcs recites a medieval poem about her. After Jamil decides to head to the Sea of Lorelei, the Freeden comes under attack. Tiffa approaches Jamil during the attack and sensing that something is off with her, he opens a communication channel with Techcs so that he can see what is going on. He heads to the command room and finds Lucille Liliant using her abilities to stop the fighting while in Tiffa's body.[13]
On Saint's Island, Techcs decides to get some secret pool practice in while the crew members are away. Unfortunately, Sala and Toniya Malme overhear him.[14] As they draw nearer to Zonder Epta, the crew are attacked and the ship is invaded by Katokk Alzamille, Techcs arms himself and prepares for a shootout if necessary.[15] The crew stumbles upon Ennil and rescue her from the Frost brothers, but she is injured and Techcs treats her.[16]
When the crew of the Freeden are captured by the New United Nations Earth military and taken to Zonder Epta, Techcs informed Ennil about the escape plan, having heard it from the members of the bridge. He also tells her that he heard about her from Toniya and Garrod, but wants to put his patients first as a doctor. He tells Ennil that he may have placed too much trust in her after she rats them out to the New UNE. Ennil herself is double-crossed by Aimzat Kartral,[17] and taken away at gunpoint along with Techcs. He tells her that he doesn't regret his decision, as he is a doctor. She responds by showing him a flashbang. He jumps to the side and after blinding out the guards, Ennil knocks them out and takes their guns. She gives one to Techs and the pair join the battle against the New UNE, regrouping with the other members of the Freeden. When they board the ship, he carries on looking after Ennil.[18]
South Asia Front[]
He finishes his treatment on Ennil and asks if she has decided whether to join the crew or not.[19] After the fall of Northernbell which acted as a mediator in the alliance with Estard and Gastar, Techcs explains to Kid and Shingo Mori how their absence could cause one of the remaining rival countries to betray the other , join the New UNE and start an ethnic cleansing against their old enemy. His fears come to pass, and he explains the situation once again to Garrod, Witz and Jamil.[20] When Gastard throws them a farewell party, Techcs explains to Shingo that they made it a lavish one as a last hurrah, knowing they will lose their freedom in the coming days.[21]
After leaving Estard, Jamil decides to head towards the Newtype labs. He consults Techcs about Tiffa's drop in her abilties which lead to her having difficulty locating the labs, and Techcs explains that her abilities are likely being blocked because of her loneliness from being ignored by Garrod. Tiffa also consulted Techcs about her dream with Garrod, and he explains that it was about her hearts desire. When Tiffa collapses after the battle, he treats her and waits outside as Garrod visits her. He tells Jamil that Garrod has caught on and that Tiffa will be fine.[22] After Tiffa disappears and Garrod is too shellshocked to tell the crew what happened, he shows him a picture that Tiffa made of them together and Garrod snaps out of it.[23]
8th Space War[]
Techcs is captured along with the other crew members by the New UNE, and they are taken away for execution. They are rescued by Carris Nautilus. The crew learn that Garrod and Tiffa have already returned from space[24] and reunite with them together with Carris. Garrod tells them about D.O.M.E, but Techcs doesn't know anything about it. They head with Carris to the New Orleans Base, and Jamil requests some time to think about what the crew should do.[25] He treats Tiffa after she collapses, but does not know what the problem is. After they steal a ship from the rebels, Techcs boards the new Freeden II as the ships doctor and heads to the moon with the others.[26] After the war begins, Techs continues with his role on the Freeden II. He is brought to the moon by D.O.M.E. along with the others,[27] and listens as D.O.M.E. reveals the truth about Newtypes.[28]
Following the 8th Space War Techcs begins working at relief camps, treating soldiers from all sides in an effort to bring peace as well as heal physical, mental, and social wounds.[28]
