The Takemikazuchi-class is an aircraft carrier introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
A trimaran naval vessel built by Orb Union following the change in the country's national defense strategy, shifting from an emphasis on security on the mainland and coastal areas to proactive defense by strengthening the pressure that can be exerted in the open sea. It is lightly armed with several 25mm anti-air gatling guns and anti-air missile launchers to intercept incoming missiles and enemy units that bypassed its escorts' defensive screen. Since it is a large aircraft carrier, it can carry a large number of MS on its two-level deck, with the upper deck being an angled flight deck, and is fitted with six linear catapults.
History[]
In the Second Alliance-PLANT War, Captain Todaka of the 2nd Naval Defense Fleet was assigned command of the lead ship of the class Takemikazuchi, which served as the flagship of a fleet under Yuna Roma Seiran's command. This fleet joined forces with an Earth Alliance naval force led by Neo Roanoke aboard the Spengler-class carrier, John Paul Jones for a joint operation against the ZAFT battleship Minerva.[1] The Takemikazuchi and its fleet were warded off in their attack by the forces of the Archangel and Freedom Gundam. Some time later, the fleet attempted a second attack off the coast of Crete.[2] Despite dealing considerable damage to the Minerva the Takemikazuchiwas destroyed when the ZGMF-X56S/β Sword Impulse Gundam attacked the ship directly using its large anti-ship swords. the majority of the crew were able to escape, with many defecting to the Archangel, while Captain Todaka went down with the ship when its bridge was destroyed.[3]
A second ship of the class, the Wadatsumi, was deployed during the Foundation Conflict to transport civilian vehicles as part of the advance evacuation fleet.[4]
