The Takemikazuchi is an aircraft carrier in the series Gundam SEED Destiny.
Technology & Combat Characteristics
The Takemikazuchi is only lightly armed with a moderate amount 25mm Gatling guns to shoot down incoming enemy units as well as a few banks anti-air missile launchers meant to take out any missile that has bypassed it's escort defensive screen.
The ship was designed as a fleet carrier as such it is able to support the MBF-M1 M1 Astray and MVF-M11C Murasame mobile suits and could carry over 60 mobile suits, which could be launched from either of its two decks. However it should be noted that only the upper flight deck can recover mobile suits. The mobile suit compliment is usually launched from the vessel's six catapults, with five of the six catapults located on the flight deck and the last on the hanger deck facing to the bow of the vessel.
The aircraft carrier Takemikazuchi was a trimaran naval vessel that served as the Orb Union's flagship. It could carry over 60 mobile suits, well in excess of the capacity of its nearest contemporary, the Earth Alliance's converted Spengler-class carriers and more closely equivalent to the dedicated aircraft carriers of the 20th and 21st century United States Navy.
In late CE 73, Colonel Todaka of the 2nd Defense Fleet was assigned to command the Takemikazuchi, which also served as the flagship of Yuna Roma Seiran. A fleet under Seiran's command joined forces with an Earth Alliance fleet led by Neo Roanoke aboard the John Paul Jones for a joint operation against the ZAFT battleship Minerva. The Takemikazuchi was sunk in the second battle with the Minerva off the coast of Crete when ZGMF-X56S/β Sword Impulse Gundam pilot, Shinn Asuka, attacked the ship directly using the large anti-ship swords. Colonel Todaka went down with his ship when Shinn destroyed the bridge with the swords.
The Takemikazuchi is named for a deity from Japanese mythology.
