Spacenoid is term used to describe human beings living in space, mainly on space colonies. It is an antonym for Earthnoid, which refers to people living on Earth, and is often used to describe political and military conflicts between the two.
Overview
These are people who were forced to immigrate to space as part of the space immigration policy (effectively an abandonment policy) implemented by the Earth's federation government. Moon dwellers are sometimes classified as "Lunarians" and Jupiter dwellers as "Jupiterians".
History
In the early days of space immigration, priority was given to engineers and scientists who were involved in the development of the space colonies, or administrators and high-ranking bureaucrats with a high level of expertise, in order to maintain the space colonies, but later, even those without expertise were forced to immigrate. Those who remained on Earth, on the other hand, were limited to those with privileged connections to the federation government. The Spacenoids harbored a latent rebellion against those who lived in the stable environment of Earth, and the Earthnoids also imposed oppressive policies on the Spacenoids, such as taxing gravity and air, which formed the basis for the conflicts that began with the One Year War.
The suppression of the Federation led to the rise of a number of forces that advocated the independence of space immigrants, starting with the Principality of Zeon. However, as the Federation was hollowed out and the independence of the Spacenoids was recognized in a hazy state, the center of anti-Federation thought was eventually replaced by Cosmo Aristocracy and Marianism.
The Spacenoids living in space colonies, which can be said to be a mass of advanced science and machine technology, are obliged to acquire advanced scientific and mechanical knowledge for the purpose of "maintaining the colonies", and some of the upper class people can operate military mobile suits even as civilians, and even the lowest class people can pilot Petite Mobile Suits, and operate computers as a matter of course. On the other hand, Melanie Hue Carbine, in a later interview with reporter Kai Shiden, expressed the view that the Spacenoids, who are inevitably technocrats, are a kind of elite, different from Gihren Zabi's delusion.
However, because they live in a highly electrified environment, they are unfamiliar with the global environment, and sometimes misidentify lightning, a natural phenomenon, as a military weapon, or show discomfort and surprise at insects and wild animals. Also, with each generation in space, the number of people who do not recognize Earth as their home increases, and the number of people who perceive the smell of Earth's plants and oceans as a strange odor and the Earth's atmosphere as dusty increases.
