Spacenoid is a term from the Universal Century, and Regild Century timelines [1]. It is used to describe human beings living in space, mainly on space colonies. It is an antonym for Earthnoid, which refers to people living on Earth, and is often used to describe political and military conflicts between the two races [citation needed].
Overview[]
Spacenoids are people who were forced to immigrate to space as part of the space immigration policy (effectively an abandonment policy) implemented by the Earth Federation government. Moon dwellers are sometimes classified as "Lunarians" and Jupiter dwellers as "Jupiterians" [citation needed].
History[]
In the early days of space immigration, priority was given to engineers and scientists who were involved in the development of the space colonies, or administrators and high-ranking bureaucrats with a high level of expertise, in order to maintain the space colonies, but later, even those without expertise were forced to immigrate. Those who remained on Earth, on the other hand, were limited to those with privileged connections to the federation government. The Spacenoids harbored a latent rebellion against those who lived in the stable environment of Earth, and the Earthnoids also imposed oppressive policies on the Spacenoids, such as taxing gravity and air, which formed the basis for the conflicts that began with the One Year War [citation needed].
The suppression of the Federation led to the rise of a number of forces that advocated the independence for space immigrants, starting with the Principality of Zeon. However, as the Federation was hollowed out, the independence of the Spacenoids was recognized in a hazy state, the center of anti-Federation idealism was eventually replaced by Cosmo Aristocracy and Marianism by the Late Universal Century [citation needed].
The Spacenoids living in space colonies, which can be said to be a mass of advanced science and machine technology, are obliged to acquire advanced scientific and mechanical knowledge for the purpose of "maintaining the colonies", and some of the upper class people can operate military mobile suits even as civilians, and even the lowest class people can pilot Petite Mobile Suits, and operate computers as a matter of course. On the other hand, Melanie Hue Carbine, in a later interview with reporter Kai Shiden, expressed the view that the Spacenoids, who are inevitably technocrats, are a kind of elite, different from Gihren Zabi's delusion [citation needed].
However, because they live in a highly electrified environment, they are unfamiliar with the global environment, and sometimes misidentify lightning, a natural phenomenon, as a military weapon, or show discomfort and surprise at insects and wild animals. Also, with each generation in space, the number of people who do not recognize Earth as their home increases, and the number of people who perceive the smell of Earth's plants and oceans as a strange odor and the Earth's atmosphere as dusty increases [citation needed].
In the Regild Century , the continuous conflicts of the Universal Century has damaged the Earth's fertile soil and the majority of the space colonies were destroyed, the descendants of the Spacenoids now live in Towasanga, in the Moon or the Venus Glove.
Comparing to the Universal Century, the Spacenoids and the Earthnoids are in a more equally position, the lack of resources on Earth has forced the Earthnoids to rely on Photon batteries only found in space, this situation has made more advantageous for people in space, but that doesn't guarantee a better life for people in space, overpopulation, social segregation and other social problems are common for Spacenoids in the Reglid Century, that's why various Spacenoid factions are unified forces for a massive attack on Earth called a "Reconguista", an operation focused on regaining the Earth from the Earthnoids.
AW Timeline[]
The situation between the Earth and the space is very similar in the After War timeline to the Universal Century with active hostilities between each other.
The spacenoid in the AW are represented by Space Revolutionary Army, a organization founded in the Cloud 9 who fight with the United Nations Earth for the rights of the Spacenoid, when the show starts the 7th Space War its currents in his final stages and end in a massive colony drop in Earth causing the deceased of 90% of the human population and sending the Earth to a several nuclear winter for years.
Under the rules of the Space Revolutionary Army the colonies are subjected to a oppressing theological government who follows the teachings of the Newtypeism who proclaims all the Spacenoids are destined to become Newtypes.
The continuing oppression by Space Revolutionary Army lead to the formation of a revel organization against them, the Satyricon formed by refugees whose home colonies were occupied and destroyed by the former Space Revolutionary Army during the 7th Space War.
Finally the end of the 8th Space War lead to a new age of peace between the Earth and Space products of the death of the principals leaders of The New UNE and the Space Revolutionary Army simultaneously.
