The Southern Cross Corps is an elite unit of the Principality of Zeon's armed forces that appears in Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island.
Overview[]
A mobile suit unit of the Zeon army once led by Cucuruz Doan. After Doan's departure, Egba Atler took over the command of the unit, and it was assigned to the Moroccan front. In Morocco, the unit is nicknamed the "Brown Southern Cross" because of its successes, to the extent that it is said to be able to support the front line with a single unit.
As the name suggests, the unit emblem is based on the Southern Cross constellation, with five stars arranged around a central cross. The unit emblem also serves as the personal mark of each member, and the position of the highlighted star is different for each member of the unit.

History[]
After the drop operations of Zeon, Cucuruz Doan would desert the Southern Cross from his guilt of killing innocent civilians. This grew a resentment towards him from his former crew, especially Egba Atler, who became the current commander of the crew after Doan's desertion.
The Southern Cross Corp would destroy a squadron of GMs stationed at Casablanca in the Moroccan front.
The Southern Cross Corp would be ordered by M'Queve to investigate the Island of Alegranza, in order to launch nuclear bombs from a silo inside the island as a counterattack against Admiral Revil's fleet and several key Federation locations. The Southern Cross accepted the order without hesitation after rumors that Cucuruz Doan, their former commander, was hiding in that island, and they would enact their revenge against him.
The Southern Cross Corp would be deployed at Alegranza, while engaging with the White Base crew as they attempted to rescue Amuro Ray. The team successfully disabled Kai Shiden and Hayato Kobayashi's Guncannons, but not before Cucuruz Doan himself would participate in the battle to protect the island from his former crew. Danan Rashica, obsessed with fighting Cucuruz Doan, was killed by him despite piloting a superior Zaku model compared to Doan's rundown Zaku.
Meanwhile, Wald Ren and Yun Sanho entered the nuclear silo inside the island. While Yun Sanho remained inside his Zaku, Wald left his unit to enter the silo's control room, and to launch the bombs inside the island. While awaiting for Wald's return, Yun in his Zaku became suspicious after nearly finding Amuro Ray inside the silo. After further investigation, Yun would find the RX-78-02 Gundam hidden behind a curtain on a mobile suit hangar. Unable to attack in time, the Gundam pierced its beam saber directly onto the cockpit of Yun's Zaku, killing him instantly. Wald left the silo's control room, only to find the aftermath of the Gundam's attack on Yun's Zaku. Horrified at the sight of the Gundam, Wald attempted to flee, and the Gundam followed him. Amuro hesitantly yet successfully squished Wald to death using the Gundam's foot.
Outside, Cucuruz Doan would fight against Selma, and successfully defeated her. Before her death, Selma tearfully asked Doan why he betrayed his former team, before her Zaku exploded. Enraged by Doan's killings against his former team, Egba Atler would engage against Doan's Zaku. Overwhelmed by Egba's enraged state and superior mobile suit model, Doan was exhausted from fighting, and would be defeated by Egba after his Zaku's arm and heathawk were cut off by Egba's superior Zaku model, leaving Doan defenseless.
Before Egba could kill Doan, Amuro Ray in his Gundam would come to the rescue. Wielding two beam sabers, the Gundam would engage Egba's Zaku. While there was initial struggle, Amuro took advantage of the island's mountain ridge which caused Egba to struggle and leave a weak spot for Amuro. Amuro sliced Egba's Zaku High Mobility Surface Type in two, before the Zeon mobile suit exploded as it fell onto the ocean surrounding the island, successfully defeating the last member of the Southern Cross Corp.
