The Solar System II is a weapon introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory.

Technical Information[]

A refined version of the Solar System, the Solar System II consists of only 408,000 mirrors, a considerable improvement over its predecessor's four million mirrors. Each mirror was made of a thin sheet coated in aluminium, and was 30m x 10m in size when fully deployed. Thanks to the improved materials and more sophisticated control software, its destructive power is equal to that of the original.[1] The Solar System II was controlled from the bridge of a modified Columbus Kai-class.

History[]

The Solar System II was deployed by the Earth Federation Forces in U.C. 0083, during Operation Stardust in an attempt to stop the Delaz Fleet from dropping a colony on Earth. Due to the pressing nature of the enemy attack, Bask Om ordered its firing earlier than planned, weakening its power level. The Solar System II inflicted heavy damage on the front of the falling colony, but due to the destruction of the weapon's control ship by the AMX-002 Neue Ziel, the attack lost cohesion and failed to destroy the colony. Later, the Solar System II was fired one last time without the control ship, which weakened its power by about 75%. This appeared to have little-to-no effect on the descending colony, but severely damaged the Neue Ziel and the RX-78GP03 Gundam "Dendrobium", which were engaged in combat next to the falling wreck.[2]
