The Sodon (ソドン Sodon?, hull number: LMSD-70) is a assault landing ship first appearing in Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-.

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

The Sodon was refitted from the Federation's Pegasus after it was captured by the Principality of Zeon forces. Externally it is near-identical to its predecessor, but the hull was repainted and the bridge — destroyed by Char Aznable in capturing it — replaced with a Zeon-style one.[1] The enclosed catapult are reinforced and connected to the main body with shock absorbers, which allows Sodon to ram into spaceport shutters when needed.

Armaments[]

  • 580mm Twin Main Gun
The Sodon's main and most powerful armaments was a pair of 580mm 2-barrel cannon, with one mounted just fore of the bridge and one mounted aft. When not deployed, these weapons were lowered in the hull with an armored hatch deployed over them.
  • Twin Mega Particle Gun
The Sodon mounted a pair of retractable twin mega particle cannons in the circular "shields" on the sides of the vessel. When deployed, they could rotate vertically to forwards, above, below, and behind the ship.
  • 2-Tube Missile Launcher
Four 2-tube missile launchers are mounted at the front of the Sodon, with a pair on each outer side of the two arm-like struts.
  • Quad Machine Gun
The Sodon is equipped with six quad barreled machine guns for anti-mobile suit defense, with three on each side of the main hull. When not in use, these guns are capable of being retracted in armored hatches for protection.

History[]

In U.C. 0085, it was given the duty of "Red Gundam Hunt". The Sodon's mission led the crew to Izuma colony in Side 6, where they were denied entry. Acting on Bull's intuition that the Red Gundam was indeed present, Ensign Xavier Olivette sortied in the gMS-Ω GQuuuuuuX with the Omega Psycommu equipped. However, after Xavier lost the GQuuuuuuX to Amate Yuzuriha and was arrested by the Side 6 Military Police, Bull ordered the Sodon to breach Izuma's interior to force his release, but avoided releasing Minovsky particles to avoid a combat situation. After Xavier was released, the Sodon continued to hold position as Bull continued to monitor the Clan Battles both Gundams were involved in, sparking public protests at the MP Headquarters demanding the Side 6 authorities push the Zeons out.[1]
