The Sidecar (サイドカー Saidokā?) was an Earth Federation Forces' motor vehicle which appears in OVA Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team[1] and later, ONA Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance.[2]

Technology & Characteristics[]

The Sidecar consisted of an off-road type two-wheeled motorcycle with an one-wheeled sidecar attachment. It was used for reconnaissance missions as well as commuting and escorting services. Some units were equipped with wire cutter at the front fork to protect the driver and the passenger.

Special Equipment & Features[]

  • Wire Cutter
Located at the left side of the motorcycle's front fork, the wire cutter was a device used to protect military personnel in open vehicles against taut-wire traps. It consisted of a strip of angle iron bolted forward to the front fork, and extended above the heads of the driver and passenger, and was notched a few inches from the top so that any wire extending across the road would be caught and snipped.

History[]

The Sidecar was commonly deployed by the Earth Federation Ground Force across the Earth during the One Year War, most notably in South-East Asian and Eastern European frontlines.[1][2] Instances included Cpl. Eledore Massis and Cpl. Michel Ninorich of the 08th MS Team in South East Asia in which they used the Sidecar to travel privately to a nearby village despite standby order was in place[1]. Another instance included a couple of Sidecars escorting a EFF's Armored Personnel Carrier full of soldiers in Eastern European frontline in November U.C. 0079 before they were captured by the Zeon troops for Iria Solari and co.'s GM-jack mission to the E.F.F. base near the Olt in central Romania.[2] This version of Sidecar did not equip with wire cutter.
