Shiho Hahnenfuss (シホ・ハーネンフース?) is a character introduced in the side story Mobile Suit Gundam SEED MSV. She is featured in a one-shot manga The Blooming of Housenka on the Battlefield, where she is given the nickname "Housenka" (a flower that is often called "touch-me-not" in English) by Yzak Joule because her use of the YFX-200 CGUE DEEP Arms's beam cannons during battle reminded him of how the flower disperses its seeds.

She seems to have romantic feelings towards Yzak but it is unknown if he feels the same way; if he does, however, he certainly does not make them known. Outwardly, Yzak considers her a loyal soldier and a trustworthy ally.

History[]
First Alliance-PLANT War[]
During the First Alliance-PLANT War, Shiho was a member of the ZAFT Ground Corps,[1] before being transferred to space. While stationed at Boaz, she spent her time trying to improve the CGUE DEEP Arms's beam cannons, and later received some help on this matter from Yzak, who has just returned from Earth.[2]
Shiho was later assigned to the Le Creuset Team, and on July 12, C.E. 71, participated in the Battle of Mendel against the Three Ships Alliance and OMNI Enforcer.[3] After the battle, the Le Creuset Team was disbanded and its members were reorganized into the Joule Team.[4] During the Second Battle of Jachin Due, she fought against EA's female ace pilot "Sakura Burst" Rena Imelia, but their fight did not have a conclusive end as she left halfway to destroy the nuclear missiles heading towards the PLANT Colonies.
Post-War[]
After the war, Shiho returned to the research lab that she worked at before joining ZAFT. However this ended up being brief arrangement, as she soon rejoined ZAFT at the army's request. In March of C.E. 72, she briefly fought in the final battle of the United States of South America's war for independence, and ordered the invading OMNI Enforcer fleet to retreat.[5]
Second Alliance-PLANT War[]
After Yzak returned to the frontlines, Shiho rejoined the Joule Team and piloted a ZGMF-1000/M Blaze ZAKU Warrior. During the "Break The World" Incident, Shiho helped Yzak and Dearka Elsman to protect allied engineers. She also noticed an unidentified mobile suit slicing apart debris and descending through Earth's atmosphere.[6] She later participated and survived the Battle of Messiah, the last battle of the second war. After that, she was among those who escorting the new PLANT Supreme Chairwoman, Lacus Clyne.[7]
The Foundation Conflict[]
Shiho was part of the forces under Yzak Joule that evacuated the PLANT Supreme Council away from the ZAFT coup d'état, and was seen alongside him aboard the FFMH-Y101 Eternal.

- It has been remarked that Shiho was intended to be a tribute to Nami Tamaki, much like how Miguel Aiman and Heine Westenfluss are tributes to T.M. Revolution. However Tamaki turned down the role, as a result though Shiho often appears in crowd or background shots in the anime, she never has any dialogue.
- On another note, Tamaki's rejection may have been a blessing in disguise for Shiho, as celebrity voiced characters such as the aforementioned Heine and Miguel were quickly and brutally killed, leaving no more room for future development of the characters. It is now highly improbable that Shiho will ever be killed, as she has developed into one of the more popular minor SEED characters with her own following. In later media Shiho would be voiced by Makiko Omoto.
- While the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Astray - RED FRAME & BLUE FRAME - PV OVA never specified who was the pilot of the CGUE DEEP Arms that chases after Lowe Guele, the Playstation 2 game Mobile Suit Gundam SEED: Never Ending Tomorrow suggests that she is the pilot.
