Shūji Itō (シュウジ・イトウ Shūji Itō?) is the tritagonist in Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX.

Personality & Character[]

A mysterious, laid-back young man who appears before Amate Yuzuriha and Nyaan; Shūji is wanted by the military police for painting graffiti all over the exterior walls of various colonies, such as Izuma.

Shūji is always accompanied by a small, orange, quadruped, cube-shaped robot called "Conch" (コンチ, konchi), whom he keeps as a pet, usually resting atop his head. Apparently, he built and modified the robot himself.[1]

Most of his actions seemed to be "told", or at least "guided" by the gMS-α Red Gundam, including, but not limited to fighting Clan Battle,[2] or going to Earth to look for a rose.[3] He also often conveyed the Red Gundam's "comments" to Amate and Nyaan.

Skills & Abilities[]

History[]

Prior to the events of GQuuuuuuX, he somehow comes into possession of the gMS-α Red Gundam, and participates in Clan Battle in order to earn money for a certain purpose, becoming Amate's MAV.

In UC 0085, Shūji had made Izuma his base and was living inside a decommissioned airlock leading to a junkyard. He spent his days painting various graffiti of the Kira-Kira around Side 6 colonies and would repaint them often to reflect the changing world.[4]

He ignored the ceasefire signal from Xavier Olivette, who was sent to chase after the Red Gundam, and they got into a fight. Their brawl led them to the slum, where Amate and Nyaan had just delivered an Installer Device to the Pomeranians clan. The two girls almost got hit by the Red Gundam's shield after it fell off but he managed to catch it in time. He then left the scene before Side 6 Military Police arrived.[2]

Shūji would reunite with Amate and Nyaan the following day, both girls sought him out for different reasons. Amate had recognized his Kira-Kira's graffiti while Nyaan brought him a new installer device, which he had broken the day before. However, he had no money to pay Nyaan, so Amate invited him to join her in clan battle for its prize. After "consulting" with the Red Gundam and got the go ahead, Shūji agreed to join her. Amate had zero experience fighting in clan battle and was panicking after being cornered by their opponent's standard MAV maneuvering, but Shūji reached out and, through the Kira-Kira, calmed her down. The two won the battle and he left before the military police arrived again, not before telling Amate that the Gundam told her to flee though.[2]

Shūji and Amate was having a winning streak in clan battle, but the battle between them and the CRS clan almost broke that. Shiiko Sugai, the CRS's fighter and a former Earth Federation super ace, had a grudge against the Red Gundam and was aggressively attacking him. Both he and Amate were severely overwhelmed and only managed to turn the tide at the last minute due to Shiiko's rage and impatience working against her. His killing Shiiko and his indifference about it truly traumatized Amate.[3]

Before their battle against the Binarys clan, Xavier had trapped Amate at the subway station so Nyaan took her place to avoid the penalty fees. Shūji immediately recognized that his MAV for the day was not Amate. Nyaan had expected him to do most of fighting, unfortunately, he had gotten a cold and was unresponsive for the most parts. Thankfully, Nyaan experienced the Kira-Kira and her fighting abilities were boosted, leading to her using him as her shield and weapon to win the fight instead.[5]

Amate found out Annqi had planned to sell Shūji out for his bounty. She was planning with Nyaan to get the three of them away from Izuma during their clan battle with the Twelve Olympians clan. However, the battle was a ruse to assassinate Kycilia Zabi, which led to their plan being ruined. As Shūji and Nyaan were hiding from military police, a Zeknova was triggered due to "the rose" waking up. Shūji and the Red Gundam disappeared within the explosion, just like Char Aznable did back in UC 0079.[6]
