Saturn (土星?) is the sixth planet from the Sun in the Solar System, and the second largest celestial body after Jupiter. Also, like Jupiter, Saturn is a "gas giant," with no solid surface. The planet's atmosphere is made up primarily of hydrogen, with some helium and trace amounts of other gasses. Saturn is the least dense planet, its average density actually being lower than water. Saturn's most prominent and well known feature is its extensive and well-defined system of rings, which are composed from clusters and chunks of ice. Saturn also has over 80 moons, possibly the most of any of the planets of the Solar System.

Saturn has not featured prominently in any story settings in Gundam to date, however the planet was shown for the first time in flashbacks in Mobile Fighter G Gundam.

Universal Century[]

The Jupiter Republic, under the leadership of Queen Tetenith Dogatie, ordered the construction of an interplanetary vessel to explore the exterior planets beyond Jupiter for possible future resource extraction. In U.C. 0153 the Argo Odisea encountered a derelict cargo vessel belonging to the Crossbone Vanguard space pirates adrift in Saturn's orbit. The cargo ship was presumed lost twenty years prior after a mysterious accident in the asteroid belt, and it had drifted all the way to Saturn in that time. The Manzana Flor rendezvous with the Argo at Saturn and assists their investigation of the ghost ship. They recover the XM-X0 Crossbone Gundam X-0 from the ship's holds and discover that the cause of the accident had been a meteorite that had crashed through the ship, however they cannot find the remains of any of the ship's crew, except for articles of their clothing. They discover that the meteorite that had crashed into the ship contained a microorganism from space, which received the name Angel Call, and that the bacterium was responsible for the deaths and liquefaction of all crew members. Upon hearing of the extreme danger to humanity posed by this new alien organism, Erin Schneider, captain of the Manzana Flor, destroys the bridge of the ghost ship, sinking it, before stealing a sample of Angel Call and escaping on the Papillon, a high-speed interplanetary transport. To try to stop the spread of the deadly bacteria on Earth, Curtis Ruthko will take the Manzana Flor to Earth, while Tetenith returns to Jupiter.

Future Century[]

A small space police outpost manned by Andrew Graham and his wife Norma was present in the orbit of Saturn. In F.C. 55, the pursuit of a space pirate vessel, commanded by Neo Russian Argo Gulskii, by the United Police Force resulted in a collision between the pirate vessel and the space station which lead to the death of Norma Graham.
