SD Gundam Generation (SDガンダムジェネレーション Esudī Gandamu Jenerēshon?) is a series of turn-based strategy video games that focus on the Gundam anime franchise. The series was developed by Tom Create for Bandai's SuFami Turbo "deck enhancer" for the Nintendo Super Famicom. The SuFami Turbo allowed for two different cartridges to be placed into it, which enabled data to be shared bewtween two SuFami Turbo games. This allowed units from one SD Gundam Generation title to be playable in other titles.
Six titles were created in the series, all releasing in a two-month span in 1996, with a seventh game planned but never released. In the following years Tom Create would develop this series further into the long-running SD Gundam G Generation series.
SD Generation titles[]
- SD Gundam Generation One Year War Report (SDガンダムジェネレーション 一年戦争記?) was based on the original Mobile Suit Gundam. It released on July 26, 1996. A limited set was also sold where the game was packeged with a SuFami Turbo.
- SD Gundam Generation Gryps Report (SDガンダムジェネレーション グリプス戦記?) is based on Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. It also released on July 26, 1996.
- SD Gundam Generation Axis Report (SDガンダムジェネレーション アクシズ戦記?) is based on Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, it released almost one month after the first two on August 23, 1996.
- SD Gundam Generation Babylonia Founding Report (SDガンダムジェネレーション バビロニア建国戦記?) is based on Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack and Mobile Suit Gundam F91 also released on August 23, 1996.
- SD Gundam Generation Zanscare Report (SDガンダムジェネレーション ザンスカール戦記?) is based on Mobile Suit Victory Gundam released a month after the previous two on September 27, 1996.
- SD Gundam Generation Colony Fighter (SDガンダムジェネレーション コロニー格闘記?), based on Mobile Fighter G Gundam, also released on September 27, 1996.
