The Romanian Mixed Mobile Brigade Headquarter (ルーマニア混成機動旅団司令部 Rūmania Konsei Kidō Ryodan Shirei-bu?),[1] also known as the Brigade HQ (旅団司令部 Ryodan Shirei-bu?),[1] was a Principality of Zeon's main military base in Eastern Europe during the One Year War. It was featured in ONA Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance.[1]
Overview[]
Located near the municipality of Mediaș in Sibiu County, central Romania, the Brigade HQ was a main regional military command post set up by the 1st Terrestrial Mobile Division of Zeon's Earth Attack Force during the early phase of the One Year War. It served as an important military headquarters and air base[1] of the southeastern Europe, from which its military commander controlled and organized the subordinate forces. This included the 7th Mobile Battalion in which the Red Wolf Squadron and Salamanders Squadron belonged. As a major command center to organize and deploy appropriate combat troops for military operation within the region, the Brigade HQ had the necessary hardware and facilities to fulfill its role, including Magella Attack MBTs, Zaku II and Zaku Tank mobile suits, Gaw carriers, Samson trailers, Zebu trucks, Armored Vehicles, Jeeps and infantrymen to call upon. It also had an airfield large enough for the enormous Gaw carriers for landing and departing to ensure partnering military units from afar could receive much needed airborne support in case of emergency.[2]
Layout and Facilities[]
The Brigade HQ featured a tall and distinctive air control tower[1] to handle the landing and departures of military aircrafts such as Gaw and Dopp fighters. The HQ occupied a large area in the middle of countryside to house numerous mobile weapons, transports and utility vehicles for troops deployment and routine maintenance, plus a sizable airstrip for use by the aforementioned aircrafts.[1]
History[]
One Year War[]
On November 6, U.C. 0079, the Brigade HQ deployed a couple of Gaws which carried the Red Wolves and Salamanders to provide partnered support for the Stein Battalion, which acted as the main organizer for the recapture operation of Cluj-Napoca military base from Earth Federation Ground Force.[2] When the unsuspecting Stein Battalion was ambushed by the EFGF who were thought to abandon the base, the Gaws responded to Maj. Joshua Stein's panicked call and parachuted the Red Wolves and Salamanders MS squadrons to counter Federal attacks, in which the base's anti-air vulcan batteries hit and destroyed the Gaws, but the two MS squadrons landed safely and with their support the Stein Battalion captured the intended target by late afternoon.[2]
Maj. Stein's victory at Cluj-Napoca was short-lived, as the Federal Forces mounted a surprise raid at the Stein Battalion in the early morning of November 7, U.C. 0079. Spearheaded by the RX-78(G)E Gundam EX, the EFGF inflicted tremendous damage to the base and casualties, including the loss of Red Wolf's pilots Reid Ghelfi and Kale Zavaleta, plus the annihilation of the Salamanders Squadron. Led by Red Wolves' captain Iria Solari, the remaining Zeon troops made an audacious escape from Gundam EX's attacks before dawn and headed to Brigade HQ where Solari and the Red Wolves were based.[3] Once they arrived, however, Solari and co. were shocked to witness the HQ was laid in ruins with nearly all stationed mobile weapons and hardware were destroyed, with a surviving infantry revealed the EFF's White Demon (Gundam EX) came earlier and laid the HQ and its soldiers to waste. With their home base destroyed, Solari's convoy headed to the nearby Recycling Centre in their continuous search for refuge.[1]

Notes & Trivia[]
- Although the Brigade HQ's exact location was not stated explicitly, it could be deduced from character's conversations in episode 3 of the ONA, in which Ander Heaton informed Solari the HQ was close to the Recycling Centre, where its residence mechanic Alfee Zydos told Solari that the scrapyard was only 20km away from Zeon's military base in Mediaș[1]. Hence the HQ was within the vicinity of Mediaș municipality in central Romania.
