The Republic of East Asia (東アジア共和国, Higashiajia Kyōwakoku^?) is a nation introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.

Organization

The Republic of East Asia is the third largest power in the Earth Alliance. The Republic's territory consists of China, Japan, the Korean Peninsula, Mongolia, part of southeastern Russia that borders China and Korean Peninsula, parts of Central Asia that borders China, and Taiwan. The Republic's capital is Taipei and Kaohsiung being the location of its main spaceport.

History

First Alliance-PLANT War

Nearly eleven months after the Bloody Valentine Incident, ZAFT forces had approached to within six kilometers of Kaohsiung. During a live CBN broadcast seven kilometers away, the sounds of the severe battle continued to echo and two ZGMF-1017 GINN were seen behind heavily damaged buildings. Kira Yamato, Tolle Koenig and Miriallia Haw would watch the bulletin weeks later, by then Tolle guessed ZAFT had taken over it already. Miriallia was worried for their Orb homeland as it was close to Kaohsiung.

During the battle, ZAFT managed to destroy the Republic of East Asia's mass driver, the first Mass Driver in the Earth Alliance to be destroyed. At the end of the War, Taiwan was returned to the Republic of East Asia.

Second Alliance-PLANT War

After the PLANT Supreme Council Chairman Gilbert Durandal revealed the existence of Logos, in the later part of the war, the Republic of East Asia, with its large naval fleet, allied themselves with ZAFT. Their fleet was present at Gibraltar Base when the LHM-BB01 Minerva returned. The Republic of East Asia lost a huge chunk of their fleet during the first wave of attack against the Logos stronghold, Heaven's Base, in Iceland.
