Disambiguation:

The RX-93ff ν Gundam is a life-sized statue located at the Mitsui Shopping Center LaLaport in Fukuoka, Japan. It opened in April 25, 2022.[1]

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

Conceived by Lieutenant Amuro Ray, the RX-93 ν Gundam's Fin Funnels were a revolutionary all-range weapon capable of both offense and defense. However, it was pointed out that its solitary firepower was insufficient. In response, Anaheim Electronics proposed combining the Fin Funnel with the Hyper Mega Bazooka Launcher that was being considered for the RX-93-ν2. The result was the Long Range Fin Funnel.[2]

In order to accommodate the Long Range Fin Funnel, the RX-93 itself would be modified into the RX-93ff variant. This would allow the Long Range Fin Funnel to connect directly to the Gundam's generator, similar to the MSZ-010 ΖΖ Gundam.[2]

Overview[]

The RX-93ff ν Gundam is a new Gundam which is equipped with a Long-range Fin Funnel based on the RX-93 ν Gundam from the globally acclaimed 1988 movie Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack. Tri-color markings created under the supervision of director Yoshiyuki Tomino will be applied to the statue, which will also have new gimmicks.[1]

A new Gundam Park Fukuoka facility is also being planned where visitors can experience the world of Gundam at Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport Fukuoka.[1]

This facility will be presented by BANDAI NAMCO Amusement and BANDAI SPIRITS, and will be the latest Gundam spot with never-before-seen features that combines an open space and entertainment facilities with Gundam elements.[1]

Armaments[]

  • 60mm Vulcan Gun
A basic armament of many Federation mobile suits, a pair are mounted on the ν Gundam's head. The Vulcan Guns are mainly for intercepting incoming missiles/rockets, destroying mobile suit sensors, and engaging lightly-armored vehicles.
  • Beam Saber
Also known as the Custom Beam Saber, it is the primary beam saber used by the ν Gundam. It is stored on the right side of the backpack and has an output of 0.85 MW. Features a curved beam blade, and can also emit a short blade from the bottom of the grip. Additionally, due to the use of new amplifiers and emitters, the shape of the beam blade can be changed to some extent. Compared to earlier models, it is more energy efficient due to the 'Auto Power On' feature, which enables the saber to instantaneously generate a beam blade only during moments of impact with enemy suits.
  • Spare Beam Saber
Equipped on the left forearm's shield mount base. It is a standard-issue beam saber and has a lower output than the primary beam saber.
  • Beam Rifle
A high-powered beam rifle with an output of 3.8 MW. At maximum output, the beam fired is comparable in power to that of a battleship-class main cannon from the same time period. It can also function as a beam machine gun by changing the burst selector. An independent aiming device was initially meant to be mounted above the rifle’s barrel, but it was changed to a single-shot grenade launcher that was originally intended to fire high intensity flash round for defensive purpose rather than offensive projectile.
  • New Hyper Bazooka
The ν Gundam is armed with a 280mm five round magazine hyper bazooka that has improved firing range and destructive power compared to the Hyper Bazooka used by other Earth Federation MS. The bazooka can be fired even when stored on the backpack, catching the opponent by surprise. It is capable of destroying an enemy unit in a single shot and is mostly used to take out slow, heavily armored targets.
  • Shield
A custom shield emblazoned with Amuro's emblem, it is mounted on the left forearm's beam saber compartment. It features a built-in 7.8 MW beam cannon and four missiles.
  • Long Range Fin Funnel
An all-range weapon with a size comparable to the overall height of the mobile suit itself, it could be controlled with thoughts by a Newtype pilot to conduct independent attacks. The connection arm on the backpack was movable and the funnel could be swiveled forward to fire over the shoulder. The long range fin funnel had sufficient power to destroy a ship with a single shot. When equipped to the backpack, it would directly connected to the ν Gundam's main generator. It was also equipped with two small generators for power it when it is disconnected. In addition, the long range funnel could also be equipped on the forearm, allowing it to be used as a high-output beam saber.

History[]

It was first announced at the 2nd Gundam Conference on September 15, 2021.[3]

Similar to the Full Armor variant, the HWS variant, and the Double Fin Funnel variant, the RX-93ff was considered, but ultimately was not completed in time.[2] A replica of the RX-93ff based on combat data left in the Ra Cailum was later created in Side-F, though it featured some changes to its color scheme.[2]

In the special video shown at Side-F, the RX-93ff ν Gundam, piloted by Amuro Ray, was shown engaging the MSN-04FF Sazabi, an alternate version of the Sazabi (which was similarly equipped with its own two large Funnels), piloted by Char Aznable, during the Axis drop operation. Char was eventually beaten and forced to eject in his cockpit pod, but the escape pod was captured by the ν Gundam.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • The Long Range Fin Funnel was designed for the statue, since the original Fin Funnels would cause balance issues.
  • Just like in the beginning of the movie, the life-sized v Gundam statue was also covered in caution tape prior to its official unveiling, complete with film covering the eye section.
