The RX-80EXAM-3-FA Blue Destiny Unit 3 (Full Armed) is a mobile suit from the Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: The Blue Destiny manga.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
The Blue Destiny Unit 3 (Full Armed) is the result of the Blue Destiny Unit 3 being upgraded with additional armaments from the RX-79BD-1FA Blue Destiny Unit 1 (Full Armed). It is equipped with the twin beam cannon used by the RGM-79DO GM Dominance, two of the missile launchers used by the RGM-79［G］ GM Ground Type that are mounted on the shoulders, and the Hyper Bazooka used by the RX-78-2 Gundam. In addition, mobility is complemented by an option pack on the legs. It can be considered the perfect form of the Blue Destiny series, featuring both high firepower and high mobility.
Armaments[]
- Head Vulcan Gun
- A pair of shell-firing weapons built into the head. Though not powerful, its high rate of fire meant it was employed to intercept incoming missiles, etc.
- 60mm Chest Vulcan Gun
- Mounted on each side of its cockpit, these shell firing weapons have a high-rate of fire but little power and can't damage the armor of a mobile suit, though they can damage lightly armored areas such as the sensors. They are ideal for shooting down missiles and lightly armored vehicles.
- Abdominal Wired-Control Missile
- Mounted on the sides of the abdomen, the pair of wired-control missiles can function under Minovsky particle interference.
- Shoulder Beam Cannon
- The mobile suit's most powerful armament is a shoulder beam cannon unit that is mounted on the shoulders. The beam cannon itself is mounted on top of the right shoulder, while a targeting system is mounted on the left shoulder.
- Twin Beam Cannon
- A ranged beam weapon originally used by the RGM-79DO GM Dominance, it demonstrates immense firepower with the large diameter beams fired from its twin barrels. A twin beam cannon is mounted on the left arm.
- YHI 6ML-79MM Missile Launcher
- A launcher system consisting of multiple missile containers fitted on a base unit. Two to four missiles can be stored within each container depending on the type of warhead selected to meet the needs of the operation. A missile launcher is mounted on each shoulder.
- BLASH XBR-M-79E Beam Rifle
- The same beam rifle as used by the Gundam Ground Type, it is a redesign of the RX-78-2 Gundam's XBR-M-79-07G beam rifle. Instead of the 79-07G’s large movable sensor, this rifle is fitted with the BP-SS-001 composite box-type sensor system utilized on the BR-M-79C-3 Beam Spray Gun and licensed from BOWA Corporation, granting the weapon improved targeting precision.
- BLASH*XHB-L-03/N-STD Hyper Bazooka
- A general purpose fire support rocket launcher platform for Mobile Suits. With considerable destructive power owing to the explosive yield in each warhead, the weapon is primarily used to destroy less-maneuverable battlefield targets such as warships, satellites, land battleships, bunkers, and buildings. When not in use, the Hyper Bazooka is stored on the back of the mobile suit's waist.
- Shield
- A piece of equipment that increases the Blue Destiny Unit 3's defensive capability, it is typically mounted on the left forearm. The shield used by Blue Destiny Unit 3 is a modified version of the shield used by the prototype RX-78 series, and has upgraded edges. The shield is mounted on the twin beam cannon
Special Equipment & Features[]
- A system that gave normal pilots the ability to mimic the power of Newtypes. While little is known about the mechanics of the system, the primary component is known to have been the captive soul of Newtype Marion Welch. The conflict of her soul with the bonds of the system made it extremely unstable and hard to control, to the point that the system - and the mobile suit - would sometimes go berserk. While under the influence of the EXAM System, the mobile suit's optical sensors would glow red. Like Unit 1's EXAM System, Unit 3's has a limiter, restricting it to roughly half its capabilities.
