The RX-80BR Black Rider is a prototype mobile suit introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation Code Fairy.

Technology & Combat Characteristics

The third prototype created for the Pale Rider Project. Based on the RX-80 which is the base for all Pale Rider units and installed with THEMIS system which is a simplified HADES system found on RX-80PR-2 Pale Rider Cavalry.

This particular unit was built to test out various technology concerning Electronic Warfare and Stealth. Its equipped with Steelyard, a set of disc mounted on its back giving it Electronic Warfare capabilities and an Active Camo system capable of rendering the entire Moblie Suit almost invisible to the naked eye.

Since all of the equipment mentioned above consumes a lot of power, it couldn't operate a beam weaponry and has to rely on kinetic and heat weaponry. It also has a short operating time as seen in Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation Code Fairy (manga) where the Black Rider suddenly shuts down before landing a killing blow due to THEMIS system consuming too much power for the Black Rider's Generator output to handle.

Armaments

• Rail Cannon

A weapon that uses electromagnetic forces, rather than gunpowder, to fire solid projectiles at very high velocities. This is the same weapon as used by the GM Land Combat Type. Stored on the rear skirt when not in use.

• Heat Dagger

A pair of heat-based melee weapons capable of cutting MS armor. Stored on the side skirt armor when not in use.

• Arm Grenade Launcher

Special Equipment & Features

• THEMIS

A prototype of the simplified HADES System that was later installed on the Pale Rider Cavalry. Like the HADES System, activating the THEMIS System causes the mobile suit's sensors to turn red

• Steelyard

A set of discs mounted on the back of the Black Rider. Giving it Electronic Warfare capabilities.

• Active Camo

A prototype optical camouflage system, it enables the Black Rider to turn invisible to the naked eye, granting the mobile suit high stealth capability.

History

It is often deployed in tandem with its sister unit, the RX-80WR White Rider.

Notes & Trivia

• Activating the THEMIS system in Battle Operation 2 shows the HADES emblem.
• Black Rider's Steelyard unit was a reference to the Biblical Horseman on the Black Horse, who carried a pair of scales in his hand.
