Template:Infobox/Mobile Weapon Ver.2 The RX-78AN-01FA Gundam Tristan〈Failnaught〉 is a mobile suit from the Mobile Suit Gundam Twilight Axis (Manga). A full armor form of the RX-78AN-01 Gundam AN-01 "Tristan", it appears in place of the RX-78KU-01 Kurwenal in the manga.

Design & Development

The Gundam AN-01 "Tristan" equipped with the "Failnaught System" experimentally produced by Buch Concern. With the aim of entering the MS business, this is one of the equipment developed by Buch Concern as a conceptual model for the development of next-generation MS based on Tristan. Utilizing a semi-automatic INCOM system for offense and defense, the Gundam Tristan〈Failnaught〉is developed based on the concept of the pilot focusing on the controls of a highly mobile and maneuverable mobile suit.

Besides additional armor and thrusters all over its body, the back of its head has the twin eye type sensor pack commonly found in later Crossbone Vanguard's mobile suits. This sensor pack provides the INCOM system with information on the mobile suit's surrounding, raising its operational efficiency. Furthermore, the left and right side of the backpack has thrust deflection systems that can be considered as the template for the XM-07 Vigna Ghina's fin nozzles, and they greatly raised the mobility of the Tristan, which already had high specs.

While the thrust deflection system and sensor pack fared well and are utilized in future mobile suits developed by Buch Concern, the armament system based on the INCOM was discarded.

Armaments

  • INCOM
Eight INCOM units are mounted on the mobile suit's body, two on the backpack and one each on the shoulders, forearms and legs. They are used for both offense and defense. Besides being armed with a beam gun each, the INCOM units can also emit a beam saber from the gun's barrel for close combat.

Operational History

This mobile suit was piloted by Quentin Fermo, who had chased after the Mastema forces that appeared on Axis and whose memebers include Danton Hyleg and Arlette Almage. The Gundam Tristan〈Failnaught〉was used in the final battle against Danton 's damaged AMX-104 R-Jarja and the incomplete experimental psycommu ship based on the Sadalahn-class that was operated by Arlette Almage. During the battle, Quentin had a resonance reaction with Arlette and lost the will to fight. The Gundam Tristan〈Failnaught〉then rescued Walter Fermo and withdrew from the combat.
