The RX-78-Z1 Zeon's Gundam is a mobile suit that first appears in the game Gihren's Greed. It is also appears in the Mobile Suit Gundam: Gihren's Ambition Special (2003) video-game on the Wonderswan Color platform.

Technology & Combat Characteristics

In the game Gihren's Greed, one of the parallel timelines of the Universal Century where Zeon forces won the One Year War, Zeon's Gundam was constructed from the design plans of the RX-78-2 Gundam taken from the Earth Federation (it is unclear how these designs were obtained). Although identical in appearance to the RX-78-2 (except for its green Zeon paint scheme and an MS-14 Gelgoog's shield in place of the RX-M-SH-008/S-01025 Shield), its interior mechanisms were completely revamped and featured parts derived from Zeon technology. However, despite these modifications, there were no significant changes to the machines performance.

Armaments

• 60mm Vulcan Gun

The Vulcan cannons were 60mm Gatling Guns stored on the sides of the Gundam's head. Having the greatest rate of fire of all the Gundam's weapons these are primarily used to ward off advancing enemies, shoot down missiles, or hit other fast moving targets. They also made good use as an anti-aircraft and anti-personnel weapons. The Vulcan cannons however had a hard time piercing heavy armor (though they had shown the ability to do severe damage to mobile suits if fired at point-blank range) and thus were not often used against larger, more heavily armored foes. Still the Vulcans were useful in preserving ammunition for the Gundam's more powerful weapons such as the Beam Rifle.

• Beam Saber

Beam Sabers are often used for close range combat and are normally stored in the backpack component when unused.

• Beam Rifle

This machine's primary weapon, the beam rifle is powerful enough to destroy most targets with a single well-placed shot. This is an older design which has its e-cap integrated into the rifle, which results in the rifle becoming useless when its energy is depleted.

• Shield

The same model used by Gelgoog , a large hand-held shield modeled after the shields used by the African Zulu tribe. When not in use the shield can be mounted on the back.

History

This event takes place during the storyline of the game Federation vs Zeon.

During the last weeks of the One Year War, the focus of the war effort shifted to outer space. Despite this many Zeon soldiers and mobile suit units continued to operate on Earth. One such Zeon mobile suit team was successful in their ambush of a Medea supply unit and their capture of an RX-78-2 Gundam unit. The captured unit was re-designated RX-78-Z1, repainted in the standard Green Zeon colors and was subsequently used against the Federation a number of times to great effect. For some time, the Gundam wreaked havoc amongst Earth Federation forces on Earth until a Federation Special Forces Combat Unit was able to intercept the stolen Gundam in New Yark and destroy it. Despite the victory for the Federation unit, the stolen Gundam shot down nearly two dozen RGM-79 GM[G] and RX-79 Gundam[G] units before it was destroyed.
