The RX-78-01［N］ Gundam Local Type (Rollout Color), also known as the RX-78［N］Gundam Local Type (Rollout) or just the RX-78［N］Gundam Local Type, is a Prototype Mobile Suit appearing in Mobile Suit Discovery [1].

Armament

  • Machine Gun
A firearm for mobile suits developed by Yashima Heavy Industrial. An improved production model was later used by other mobile suits.
  • Beam Saber
A combat armament stored on the right side of the backpack, its blade-shaped beam can instantaneously cut through the armor of a mobile suits. Two more beam sabers can be mounted on the left forearm, and when the mobile suit is using the shield, these two beam sabers are mounted on the shield's underside.
  • Shield
A compact shield for close combat that can be mounted on the left forearm, it has a bipod at the back. Two beam sabers can be stored on the underside as well.
  • Shoulder Cannon
A medium-range, solid-shell firearm with a magazine mounted in the rear. It is set on the left side of the backpack with a movable base. It boasts the power to destroy a Zaku II with one blow. It is the same weapon as used by the RX-78-01［N］ Gundam Local Type (North American Type) and RX-78-01 Prototype Gundam.

History

After Dr. Tem Ray's RX-78 plan gained the backing of the Earth Federation Forces, a separate team was appointed for environmental performance and durability testing of the RX-78 on Earth [2]. It was constructed mainly with surplus parts for the RX-78-01 Prototype Gundam. Originally it had an all-gold color-scheme like the RX-78-01 and a space use backpack equipped with a shoulder cannon. Later, it would be refitted into a new mobile suit, gaining a new color scheme and being equipped with underwater equipment for offshore testing [3] There was also another unit with a black color scheme [4][3][5].
