The RX-77-02 Guncannon is a series of mobile suits featured in Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin manga. During the One Year War, there were units piloted by Kai Shiden (104), Hayato Kobayashi (109), Job John (102) and Daniel Schoenberg (103) [1].
The White Base's units were upgraded to have five-fingered hands when she made port at Jaburo[2].
Armaments[]
Shoulder Cannons[]
Standard Guncannons had two, one each shoulder during the One Year War.
Missile Launchers[]
Hayato's Unit 109 was equipped with them for the Alegranza Mop-up Operation[3]. Kai's Unit 104 was also equipped with them when the White Base docked at Belfast [4].
Beam Rifle[]
A revolutionary weapon for its time, the beam rifle is the primary handheld ranged weapon of the Guncannon. It is a miniaturized version of a mega particle cannon with an output of 1.9 megawatts.
60mm Vulcan Gun[]
A pair of shell-firing armament built into the head. Low offensive power, only used to restrict enemy movement, and lay down a wall of suppressive fire due to their rapid-fire capability.
Shield[]
The Guncannon's shield is a simple defensive equipment that can be carried by its handle or mounted on the mobile suit's forearm. It is that same shield as used by many Federation Mobile suits.
History[]
Guncannons and Guntanks were used as mock targets for the RX-78-01 Prototype Gundam's beam rifle. Denim and his men discovered the remains of several when they infiltrated Side 7 [5].
By the time Amuro Ray boarded White Base with the approval of the injured Captain Paolo Cassius, there was a Guncannon in the starboard hangar of White Base and the RX-78-02 was stored in front of it [6].
