The RX-77-02 Guncannon is a mobile suit that appears in Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
A mobile suit that was created by Earth Federation Forces' in their part of "RX Project" mobile suit development plan, alongside the RX-78 Gundam type. It was designed with the emphasis on fire support and artillery combat in mind. In order to achieve its intended role, it was equipped with a pair of Large Beam Cannon on its back, and a specialized Beam Rifle.[2] With those armaments it was a formidable unit at mid range combat that boast high firepower and thicker armor. Despite the amount of firepower it offered, its mobility was lower than the RX-78 due to its heavier weight. Like the RX-78 it also features the Core Block System that act as escape system in case the mobile suit got destroyed, but still capable of keeping the operational data intact.[2]
Armaments[]
- Beam Cannon
- The primary weapons of the Guncannon are a pair of beam cannons mounted on the backpack. The Guncannon is also the first mass produced mobile suit to be equipped with high-output beam cannons as a standard armament. These beam cannons are typically directly powered by the Guncannon's generator.
- Beam Rifle
- A specialized beam rifle model for mid range combat.
Special Equipment & Features[]
- The prototype mobile suits produced by the Earth Federation Forces' "RX Project", features a core block system that allows the cockpit and main engines to eject in the form of a fighter plane, preserving the pilot's life and invaluable combat data.
- Extenders
- The Guncannon is equipped with various hardpoints, found on its shoulder pauldrons, elbows, and knees, which can be used to mount different types of equipment including weapons and shields.
History[]
U.C. 0079, a Guncannon unit was deployed to defend against the Principality of Zeon infiltration mission led by Char Aznable on the Side 7 colony. During the battle, the Guncannon managed to deal partial damage to Denim's MS-06 Zaku, but unfortunately it was disabled by RX-78-02 Gundam's beam saber after it was hijacked by Char, killing the pilot inside.[3]
