The RX-122 Gundam [Hazel Kelderek] is an experimental mobile suit developed at Confeito, incorporating data from next-generation prototypes developed outside the base, including those from Gryps. Based on the RGM-79Q GM Quel ［Early Hazel］ , it was designed primarily to feed back RX-178 Gundam Mk-II technology into future mass-produced models. As such, it is equipped with the Mk-II’s armaments—such as its beam rifle, shield, and Vulcan pod—and features the Mk-II’s backpack.[1]
Operational data from the Hazel Kelderek influenced later mass-production mobile suits like the RGM-86R GM III, RMS-154 Refined Barzam, and RGM-89 Jegan. One notable aspect of its development was the testing of various leg-mounted thruster units. This continued a trend seen in earlier Federation suits—particularly those based on the RX-78 series frame, such as the Gundam NT-1 “Alex”, Gundam Unit 6 “Mudrock”, and their successors like the RX-80PR Pale Rider and RX-81 G-Line—where leg thrusters significantly improved mobility. With the Kelderek’s test results, mounting thrusters on the outer shins became a standard feature for second-generation MS and beyond.[2][1]
The name "Kelderek" comes from another work by the same fairy tale author whose stories inspired the codenames of Hazel-type units, signaling that while this MS shares roots with the TR Project, it was developed for a different purpose. It was officially designated with a new model number: RX-122. Its jet-black coloring belongs to the Black Hares, the Titans’ secret special forces.[3][1]
