The RX-121 Gundam TR-1 [Hazel Custom] is the upgraded form of the RX-121 Gundam TR-1 [Hazel] from the Universal Century timeline. It was featured in Advance of Zeta: The Flag of Titans. The unit is piloted by Wes Murphy.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
The TR-1 [Hazel Custom] is the upgraded form of the Gundam TR-1 [Hazel], which was heavily damaged during combat with a Stutzer-series mobile suit—modified units used by Zeon Remnants. The damaged Hazel was repaired and reinforced using spare parts stored aboard the Aswan, as well as components from a GM Quel stationed at Confeito. Through these extensive modifications, the unit was reborn as a true Gundam—not just in name, but in form, appearance, and internal structure.[1]
Drawing on operational data and accumulated development expertise, the compatibility between individual components has been carefully refined. The restructuring of the unit’s parts has resulted in a lighter overall frame, while a 10% increase in thruster output has significantly enhanced its maneuverability. The cockpit has also undergone a major overhaul, featuring the full-scale implementation of a panoramic monitor system and linear seat. In addition, the operating system has been completely upgraded, leading to a substantial improvement in both responsiveness and ease-of-use.
The most noticeable external differences from the original Hazel are the chest cockpit block and the waist center armor. The center armor has been modified to slide forward, and a multi-purpose latch was added to support the evaluation testing of various optional weapons. Although the initial testing plan for Hazel’s optional weapons was nearly complete, this modification significantly expanded the scope of experimentation, allowing the unit to adopt a wider range of forms. While the main armament remains the same as the original Hazel, the addition of new optional equipment enables it to use a wider variety of weapons than ever before. All Shield Boosters were lost when the original Hazel was damaged, so a standard GM shield was used as a temporary replacement. Even after new Shield Boosters were resupplied, the GM shield continued to be utilized depending on the mission.
Prior to the renovation of this unit, the refurbished TR-1 Hazel II was assigned the model number RX-121-2, prompting the model number of this unit to be updated from RX-121 to RX-121-1. Due to the unusually short renovation period—lasting only a few days—the Hazel Custom could not be painted in time. As a result, it was initially deployed in the light gray color of its unpainted molded armor. Once the decision was made to field it in active combat following the outbreak of the Gryps Conflict, the unit was later repainted in the official Titans colors.
The Hazel Custom's basic specs, including its generator and thruster performance, are similar to those of the GM Quel. Its leg sections house thermonuclear rocket engines with an output of 17,500 kg apiece, and its backpack is equipped with the same movable booster pod as the original Hazel. The thermonuclear reactor inside this pod serves as both a supplemental generator and a hybrid jet/rocket engine, with an output of 390 kW and 18,000 kg respectively. The Hazel Custom retains the support actuator units and enhancement parts of the original Hazel, and can carry all the same equipment. A multi-weapon latch can be plugged into its center skirt armor to support options like a sub arm unit or a flexible beam rifle unit, and another multipurpose latch is located above its cockpit hatch. While the Hazel Custom's High Mobility Form is identical to that of the original Hazel, its Assault Form is equipped with the same booster pod used by the RMS-117 Galbaldy β High Mobility Type, rather than the Hazel's usual movable booster pod. Two shield boosters are attached to this booster pod, and the mobile suit is also equipped with the Galbaldy β's extendable shield.
Armaments[]
- Beam Saber
- Vulcan Pod
- XBR-M84a Beam Rifle
- Long Blade Rifle
Special Equipment & Features[]
- Multi-purpose Weapon Latch
- Moveable Booster Pod
- Sub Arm Unit
- Anti-Stutzer Wire Cutter Unit
- The Anti-Stutzer Wire Cutter Unit is an optional, large V-shaped cutter mounted on the chest, developed as a countermeasure against the Winch Units commonly used by the Zeon remnants' Stutzer-series mobile suits. Designed for close-quarters defense, the blade is durable enough to sever the specialized steel wire deployed by enemy winch systems, enabling the unit to break free quickly if ensnared during combat.
Configurations[]
- Gundam TR-1 [Hazel Custom] Sniper Unit
- A variation of the Hazel Custom, this version features the long blade rifle used by the RX-121-1+FF-X29A Gundam TR-1 [Hazel-Rah] . Equipped with one shield booster, this version also features a monoeye visor in place of the standard dual eyes.
- Gundam TR-1 [Hazel Custom] Sub Arm Unit
- The multi weapon latch in the center skirt armor of the RX-121-1 Gundam TR-1 [Hazel Custom] is designed to serve as a multipurpose joint for various option parts used by the Hazel. This sub arm unit, one of the devices intended to connect to the multi weapon latch, contains secondary arms folded away inside what looks at first glance like extra skirt armor. These sub arms allow the Hazel to carry a beam rifle or other weapons even when both its main arms are obstructed by the attachment of shield boosters. The sub arms can also be used to wield secondary weapons like beam sabers, or to replace energy packs when both main arms are holding weapons. Despite the effectiveness of the Sub Arm unit, the complexity they add to the mobile suit's fire control means they require a high degree of pilot skill, so this system is never widely adopted.
History[]
The unit’s fate after Eliard Hunter and Wes Murphy transitioned to piloting the Gaplant TR-5 is not depicted in the story, and the final status and whereabouts of the Hazel Custom remain unknown. Following its evaluation trials with the Titans Test Team unit, this machine was also deployed to both the Gate of Zedan and the Confeito garrison. However, in terms of total units produced and fielded as a mass-production model, it is said to have lagged behind the Barzam.
