The armor of the GM uses titanium alloy, a sturdy metal that could be refined more quickly and easily than the Gundarium Alloy, but also less durable and slightly lighter.

The GM was primarily armed with a pair of 60mm vulcan guns mounted in its head and a single beam saber in backpack, although some models had a twin-saber backpack. But the most important weapon was thea beam spray gun, that had a shorter range than the beam rifles, but it could still destroy MS in one shot and was just as accurate and had a higher rate of fire and more ammo. Early in production, the beam spray gun had yet to be completely mass-produced so most GMs were equipped with machine guns.

The RGM is a series of mobile suits used by Earth Federation and developed at first by Earth Federation itself and then by the Anaheim Electronics. The serial number RGM literally means Federal (連邦 Renpō?) Gundam Mass (implying Production), usually followed by the year of first release. Infact the RGM-79 GM, developed using the combat data of RX-78-2 Gundam, was the first mass production mobile suit deployed by Earth Federations Forces in UC 0079, during One Year War. But a the end of the war in UC 0080, the Anaheim started the development of GM's offspring independently from the Gundams' successors. For his incredible versatility the RGM models were developed and produced by Anaheim for the Earth Federation until the end of both around UC 0200.

The GM

The main aim of Project V was the design of a general-purpose mobile suit to place in mass production. For the development of these mobile suit were used the RX-79[G] Gundam Ground Type and the RX-78 Gundams' combat data. The first two model developed before mass production were deployed the RGM-79[G] GM Ground Type and the RGM-79[E] GM Early Type, respectively for ground and space use. Finally it was placed in mass production the RGM-79 GM, aka GM (pronounced Jim). The basic frame has a fairly high level of mobility, for the time, both on Earth and in space while at the same time proved easily adaptable to modifications into mission specific GM models. The GM was also use to develop RAG-79 Aqua GM, the first Federal mass production amphibious mobile suit.

Variants

Anaheim's RGM models

RMS-179 GM II

Also known with the serial number RGM-79R, the GM II was aesthetically very similar to One Year War's GM, but the performance was slightly improved, furthermore it was featured by 360-degrees panoramic cockpit.

Variants

RGM-86R GM III

Compared to its ancestors, the GM III represent a giant leap, in terms of performance, armor and armaments. The armor was upgraded adding Gundarium Alloy and strengthening the overall frame. The GM III featured a higher output backpack and vernier units on the outer calf area of either of its legs, that increased the GM III's thruster acceleration, enabling a much higher speed and much greater maneuvering capability. The GM III sports the typical head-mounted vulcan guns, a pair of beam sabers mounted on the backpack and a 4-tube medium-missile launcher, or a 15-tube small-missile launcher on both shoulders, as well as two large 2-tube missile launchers on both side skirts.

Variants

RGM-87 Bar-GM

With the dissolution of Titans, at the end of Gryps Conflict, the EFF committed to Anaheim the conversion of the survived RMS-154 Barzam units, in this model re-designated as MSA-008, from the Anaheim, and RGM-87 from Earth Federation Forces

, which was placed in mass production.

RGM-88X Jeddah

Created using also the data of MSA-003 Nemo, the Jeddah was an high-performing mass production mobile suit. Its production was cheaper than other contemporary model, but it was quickly outdated by the successive RGM models.

RGM-89 Jegan

The Jegas was designed to be lighter and more maneuverable than all the previous GM units. The Jegan's design was focused more on being easy to use, easy to maintain, and used a wide set of common mobile suit parts that could be quickly and cheaply replaced. The armament of Jegan included a beam saber and three hand grenades stored on the right and left side of the waist respectively, an head-mounted vulcan gun pod. The Jegan remained in service fore many years and for its longevity it received periodic technological upgrades, producing a large number of variants

Variants

RGM-90 Jeddah Improve Type and RGM-91S Jegan Enhanced Armor Type

This models were limited production attempts of Anaheim to improve the Jegan and the Jeddah.

The RGM-90 Jeddah Improve Type was a ground combat mobile suit, that was delivered to Federation bases on Earth.

The RGM-91S Jegan Enhanced Armor Type was an high-performance mobile suit, that featured powerful engines and added Gundarium armor.

RGM-96X Jesta

The Jesta is a high-performance special operations mobile suit developed by Anaheim Electronics, alongside with UC Project's models, as escort unit, principally the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam. The Jesta was fitted with a redesigned backpack capable of tremendous thrust, which allowed it to surpasse, in terms of performance, most Federation's mobile suits of its time. Compared to the Jegan, the Jesta also has three spare magazines for the beam rifle mounted on the unit's right forearm, and a beam saber on its left forearm for easier access.

Variants

RGM-109 Heavygun

As all Late Universal Century's mobile suit, it was smaller than previous general purpose mobile suits and could be more cheaply produced than older mobile suit models. The Heavygun represented a new age of mobile suits being the first miniature mobile suit to reach mass production. Its smaller size and reduced weight made the Heavygun highly efficient as well as faster and more maneuverable than previous mobile suits. Heavygun's standard armament included a pair of beam sabers, a pair of hand grenade racks, with four grenades per rack, mounted on the waist and a pair of vulcan guns mounted in the head. Since the Heavygun remained in service with the Federation for an extended number of years it would see combat with the mobile suits of the Crossbone Vanguard which were more technologically advanced and had much greater performance.

Variants

Variants

RGM-111 Hardygun

Compared to Heavygun, the Hardygun featured an high number of improved vernier thrusters and an higher output reactor, giving it performance, in terms of acceleration and maneuverability, higher than any mass-produced mobile suits used by the Earth Federation. The suit was armed with a back mounted beam launcher, a pair of mega machine guns, a pair of triple grenade racks, and a pair of head-mounted vulcan guns.

Variants

RGM-119 Jamesgun

The Jamesgun was developed with the most advanced technologies and up-to-date weapons, in order to fight the Crossbone Vanguard's mobile suits. Its simplified design made it easier to use and maintain, making it a fairly popular suit.

Variants

RGM-122 Javelin

The Javelin's prototype was based on its predecessor, the Jamesgun. The Javelin was equipped with various thrusters, that improve its mobility, and a javelin pack backpack with pair of shot lancers, inspired by similar weapons used by the Crossbone Vanguard. The Javelin was of several times the best mass production MS available to the Earth Federation and it was replaced by a newer RGM-147 mobile suit only several decades after its firts deployment.

Ancestors and variants

RGM-196 Freedom

The Freedom model was a completely outdated mobile suit formerly used by the Earth Federation before it was dissolved. The Freedom was used as the prototype of the F Saviour, the sixth unit of the Illuminati's Saviour line of mobile suits.

The RGC series

The RGC series was developed at the end of One Year War from RGM series in order to create a mass-produced line of mid-range artillery mobile suits lighter, cheaper and more maneuverable than Guncannon's series.
