The RGM-89M Jegan B-Type (aka Jegan Type M ) is a mobile suit introduced in the Mobile Suit Gundam F91 movie.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
The RGM-89M Jegan B-Type is a close to medium-range combat variant of the RGM-89J Jegan Normal Type. Compared to the base model, it has higher firepower due to the equipping of waist-mounted missile launchers and two beam sabers stored on the left forearm. These weapon enhancements had little interference with the machine design itself. Additionally, the head antenna and chest ducts (intakes) are larger. The thruster layout has not changed significantly from the base model, but the number of vernier thrusters has been increased.
Armament[]
- Vulcan Pod System
- A rapid-fire, close-range defensive armament mounted on the left side of the Jegan B-Type's head.
- Beam Saber
- A beam weapon for close combat. It is a small device held in the mobile suit's hands when operated and is powered by a rechargeable energy capacitor. It emits a blade of plasma contained by an I-Field and can cut through any armor not treated with anti-beam coating. The Jegan B-Type has two beam sabers stored on the left forearm.
- 5-tube Missile Launcher
- Equipped on the sides of the waist, the pair of missile launchers enhance the Jegan B-Type's firepower in close to medium-range combat.
- Beam Rifle
- An E-pack type rifle with a higher output than the conventional beam rifle, and is larger than the Jegan Normal Type's beam rifle. This beam rifle model is also used by the RGM-89R Jegan A-Type. The Jegan B-Type can also use the RGM-89J Jegan Normal Type's beam rifle.
- Shield
- A standard defensive armament to protect against physical attacks and has anti-beam coating on its surface for defending against beam attacks. The Jegan B-Type's shield has a swivel mount and a pair of quadruple missile launchers.
History[]
The RGM-89 Jegan developed in the early U.C. 0090s remained the Earth Federation Forces's mainstay mobile suit for more than three decades, with its design being overhauled over the years in an attempt to keep up with modern technology. The RGM-89J Jegan Normal Type eventually took over as the Jegan series' basic model, and it had two variants: the RGM-89R Jegan A-Type and the RGM-89M Jegan B-Type.
In U.C. 0122, the Jegan B-Type was one of the mobile suits deployed by the EFF during the Second Oldsmobile War.[1] By this time, the Jegan B-Type was considered old and its performance was inferior compared to Oldsmobile forces' RF series.[1] The Jegan B-Type was eventually replaced by newer MS such as the F71 G-Cannon, but it remained in use during the Crossbone Vanguard's invasion of the Frontier Side in U.C. 0123.[2]
