:A handheld mega-particle gun with a lower focusing rate than a beam rifle and short range. The beam spray gun featured three fire modes: a basic single shot mode, an area suppression burst shot with a widened beam focus, and a range shot with the ability to cause damage over a wide area. Output 1.4 MW.
:The Beam Spray Gun was essentially the Gundam's beam rifle in a smaller weaker form, it fires a less powerful but more scattered shot. As a result of this, the beam spray gun is less effective at long range, but is better at close range due to a more spread out shot, similar to a shotgun effect. While the beam spray gun is less powerful than the beam rifle, it has been shown to be able to penetrate the armor of a Rick Dom - one of the most heavily armored mobile suits of the One Year War.

Template:Infobox/Mobile Weapon Ver.2The RGM-79L GM Light Armor is a variant of the RGM-79 GM. It first appears in the Mobile Suit Variations series.

Technology & Combat Characteristics

The Federation soon learned that standardizing the RGM-79 GM gave it some distinct advantages and disadvantages. The GM outclassed the Zeon's Zakus in terms of firepower, but lacked performance in key areas against Zeon's more advanced suits such as the MS-09 Dom. One of the first variants designed to counter this was the RGM-79L GM Light Armor. which was developed during the late U.C. 0079 and served as a fast attack unit for hit-and-run raids.

The GM Light Armor was really just a rebuild of the standard GM with only the bare minimum of armor (notably missing on the shoulders and ankles), thus reducing its weight and giving it higher acceleration and maneuverability. The armaments of GM Light Armor were a beam saber, custom beam rifle and a beam spray gun. Due to its light weight and nimbleness, this variant was favored by many of the Federal Forces' ex-Fighter pilots.

Armaments

  • Beam Saber
The standard close range armament for most mobile suits, it is a small device held in the mobile suit's hands when operated and is powered by a rechargeable energy capacitor. The beam saber emits a blade of plasma contained by an I-Field and can cut through most armor not treated with anti-beam coating. The GM Light Armor has one beam saber stored on its backpack.
  • Custom Beam Rifle
The beam rifle model carried by the GM Light Armor type was similar to that of the RX-78-2 Gundam's beam rifle, while it packs a heavier punch than the beam spray gun, it has more limited ammunition.
  • Beam Spray Gun
A handheld mega-particle gun with a lower focusing rate than a beam rifle and short range. The beam spray gun featured three fire modes: a basic single shot mode, an area suppression burst shot with a widened beam focus, and a range shot with the ability to cause damage over a wide area. Output 1.4 MW.

History

In the race to adapt its standard RGM-79 GM mobile suit for specialized roles during the latter days of the One Year War, the Earth Federation Forces created a GM variant designed to serve as a fast attack unit for hit-and-run raids, the RGM-79L GM Light Armor. Due to its light weight and nimbleness, the GM Light Armor was favored by many of the Federation Forces' former-fighter-pilots-turned-MS-pilots, particularly Captain Gary Rogers.

Notes and Trivia

  • In Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation, The GM Light Armor is classified as a close-combat specialist unit, meaning it can attack with the beam saber for upwards of 3 well-timed hits.
