The RGM-79L GM Light Armor is a variant of the original RGM-79 GM. It first appears in the Mobile Suit Variations series.

Armaments
- Beam Saber
- The beam saber use Minovsky particles held in place by an I-Field to form an effective cutting surface that can slice through nearly any material. The particles for the beam saber are stored by E-cap in the hilt of the saber, which is recharged from the GM's reactor when the saber is returned to its socket. Once activated, beam saber do not rely on the mobile suit's reactor and can be thrown or discarded as decoys. It is most often used for close range combat or as an emergency weapon once all other ammunition has been depleted. The GM Light Armor is equipped with one beam saber stored in a backpack recharge rack.

History
In the race to adapt its standard RGM-79 GM mobile suit for specialized roles during the latter days of the One Year War, the Earth Federation Forces created a GM variant designed to serve as a fast attack unit for hit-and-run raids, the RGM-79L GM Light Armor. Due to its light weight and nimbleness, the GM Light Armor was favored by many of the Federation Forces' former-fighter-pilots-turned-MS-pilots, particularly Captain Gary Rogers.
