The RGM-111Y Proto Hardygun is a variant of RGM-111 Hardygun developed by Anaheim Electronics as part of its "Silhouette Formula Project". It was introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam F90: Fastest Formula.

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

A further development of RGM-111X Heavygun II by Anaheim Electronics (AE) engineers at the Granada branch, and a part of the Silhouette Formula Project.[1] Besides having improved performance, the mobile suit also incorporated data from the F70 Cannon Gundam and could use the Mission Packs of the F90 Gundam F90 to a certain degree.[2][3] The major drawback of the Proto Hardygun is that its operating system must be rewritten each time it equips a new Mission Pack.[3] Also the implementation of F70 data affect its cost, making it hard for mass production. Nevertheless data obtained from Proto Hardygun gave significant contribution to AE's Silhouette Formula Project, primarily its successor the RGM-111 Hardygun.[4]

Armaments[]

  • Vulcan Gun
Mounted in the head, these shell firing weapons have a high-rate of fire but little power and can't damage the thick armor of a mobile suit, though they can damage lightly armored areas such as the sensors. They are ideal for shooting down small, lightly armored targets such as missiles, attack vehicles, etc.
  • Mega Machine Cannon
Mounted on top of the chest, the pair of mega machine cannons are shell firing weapons with stronger firepower than the vulcan guns.
  • Quadruple Grenade Rack
A rack carrying four grenades is mounted on each side of the waist.
  • Beam Saber
The standard close range armament for most mobile suits, it is a small cylindrical device held in the mobile suit's hands when operated and is powered by a rechargeable energy capacitor. The beam saber emits a blade of plasma contained by an I-Field and is capable of cutting through any metal not treated with anti-beam coating. The Proto Hardygun is equipped with a beam saber stored on the right side of its backpack.
  • Double Beam Gun
A twin barreled beam gun is mounted on each forearm.
  • Beam Rifle
The standard hand carried ranged beam weapon of the RGM-109 Heavygun series, is a beam rifle powered by a rechargeable energy cap. It features a full barrel structure for barrel protection and to maintain accuracy.[5] As the weapon is developed during a time where anti-MS combat is not the main focus and usage of beam rifles are actively avoided to protect the space colonies, it is installed with a sub-sensor as well as a limiter to avoid excessive power.[5] It also has a selector for choosing between automatic or semi-autom-atic firing mode. When not in use, the Heavygun's beam rifle is stored on the rear waist armor.
  • Beam Lance
A large caliber beam saber that can generate a cone-shaped beam blade used by F90II I-Type, it is best suited for piercing attacks. It can also function as a scattering beam shotgun and has a vernier at the back.
  • Sea Serpent
A handheld, wired grappling weapon that can be used to deliver crippling electrical shocks to enemy mobile suits. Its tip contains verniers that helped in controlling its trajectory. Can be used in unison with other sea serpents to form a net known as 'Spider Web'.
  • Shield
A customized shield model commonly used by Earth Federation mobile suits. The shield is a thick sheet of armor designed to take severe punishment that would normally destroy a mobile suit, and is also treated with an anti-beam coating to withstand several beam shots before the coating wears off. Typically, physical shields can only take so much damage before they succumb to the pressure and break.

History[]

In U.C. 0116, ten unit of Proto Hardygun is deployed to Luna II's 4th Aggressor unit in a simulation against the Fastest Formula Corps (FF).[6] Some of these units were piloted by Karl Schwitz, Veronica Vernon, and Arthur Knightley, each equipped with parts from Formula Project's Mission Packs. During the battle the Proto Hardyguns manage to outperform the FF Corps mobile suits, including the F90 Gundam F90 Unit 2 piloted by Dir Rider using the Sea Serpents. However due to Dir's superior piloting skill, he cut the Sea Serpent and took down many of Proto Hardygun, resulting the lost of 4th Aggressor.[6]
