The RGM-111X Heavygun II (RGM-111X ヘビーガンII hebīgan II?) is a variant of RGM-109 Heavygun, introduced in manga Mobile Suit Gundam F90: Fastest Formula.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
The Heavygun II is an improvement RGM-109 Heavygun by Anaheim Electronics (AE) after its poor reception by the Earth Federation Forces. While its basic design mostly the same as its predecessor, it was equipped with higher generator output, and better armor material. Despite the improvements, it was considered a failure, due to the introduction of Strategic Naval Research Institute's Formula Project and F90 Gundam F90 as the flagship of their next generation mobile suit (MS) model. Although its not adopted by the Earth Federation, the Heavygun II was not abandoned and AE still used it as testbed for their own next generation MS model, by incorporating data from F70 Cannon Gundam, which resulted the RGM-111Y Proto Hardygun as the competitor model for SNRI's F80 Gunraid.[1]
Armaments[]
- Vulcan Gun
- Mounted in the head, these shell firing weapons have a high-rate of fire but little power and can't damage the thick armor of a mobile suit, though they can damage lightly armored areas such as the sensors. They are ideal for shooting down small, lightly armored targets such as missiles, attack vehicles, etc.
- Beam Saber
- The standard close range armament for most mobile suits, it is a small cylindrical device held in the mobile suit's hands when operated and is powered by a rechargeable energy capacitor. The beam saber emits a blade of plasma contained by an I-Field and is capable of cutting through any metal not treated with anti-beam coating. The Hardygun is equipped with a beam saber stored on the left side of its backpack.
- Quadruple Grenade Rack
- A pair of waist-mounted grenade racks similiar to those used by RGM-109 Heavygun, each carrying 4 hand grenades. The explosive power of the grenades are reduced to avoid damaging the colony's outer walls, thus they are less effective during anti-MS combat. While these racks can flip open for the mobile suit to grab and throw the grenades, the grenades can also directly launch out of their racks like missiles.
- Beam Rifle
- A standard hand carried ranged beam weapon is the beam rifle. Capable of firing concentrated mega particles, attacks from a beam rifle are can damage any ordinary armor that has not been specially treated to resist it. The Hardygun can use the same beam rifle as the Heavygun.
- Hyper Bazooka
- The Hyper Bazooka is a portable, handheld, anti-ship rocket launcher that functions like a recoilless rifle, with gas ejected from the rear of the weapon. It is loaded with five rounds in a magazine towards the rear end. The Hyper Bazooka is effective against large groups of mobile suits due to its ability to cause damage over a wide area, though it is primarily used to destroy less-maneuverable targets such as battleships and buildings. When required, the Gundam can be equipped with two Hyper Bazookas for increased firepower, with one held in each hand.
