The RCX-76-01A Guncannon Mobility Test Type (RCX-76-01A ガンキャノン機動試験型?) is a mobile suit featured in Mobile Suit Discovery [3].
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
During the initial development of the RCX-76-02 Guncannon First Type, differently equipped units were produced for evaluation tests. For the RCX-76-01A, power and drive system tests were carried out, mainly to examine its mobility and the adoption of additional equipment. The shoulders were retrofitted with both left and right Gatling Guns, for the head antenna, a V-shaped type was examined. The data obtained from the RCX-76-01A was collected at the developers', Anaheim Electronics', Von Braun factory and was reflected in the RCX-76-02 series [3][2].
Equipment[]
- Head
The RCX-76-01A was used to test a V-shaped antenna that was capable of high-precision searching [2]. This mobile suit was equipped with a 60mm Vulcan Gun on both sides of its head [2].
- Manipulator
A three-fingered manipulator. It could carry hand-held weapons such as the Machine Gun, but apparently, it was not intended for close combat [2].
Armaments[]
- Gatling Gun
A terrestrial firearm that could be mounted on the shoulder weapon platform. It could be mounted on either shoulder [2].
- Machine Gun
A firearm that shot live ammunition, produced by Yashima Heavy Industries. The MS-04 Bugu which fought against the RCX-76-02 at the Battle of Mare Smythii, was also equipped with a similar type of firearm [2].
- Shield
Protective gear worn on the upper arm. A mounting latch and grip were attached to the rear face. The RCX-76-02 was also equipped with this shield [2].
History[]
Anaheim Electronics, which had obtained information about the new type of mobile suit that was being developed in secrecy by the Autonomous Republic of Zeon, put its sense of smell to work as befitting a military industrial complex, and embarked on the development of its own mobile suit. The Von Braun Plant, the largest plant of all plants scattered throughout the geosphere, was to inherit the RCX-76 Guncannon First Type Rollout Unit 1 that was developed by Dr. Tem ray, by producing a prototype with different equipment for evaluation testing. The plant's development team first undertook the RCX-76-01A Guncannon Mobility Test Type, which was a mobile suit for examining mobility and the adoption of additional equipment. Data obtained from the RCX-76-01A was amassed at the Von Braun plant, and was used to determine the armament and specifications of RCX-76-02 [2].
Detailed materials on the Guncannon First Type had not been revealed for a long time, but its development process had finally come to light in a then-recent survey. Perhaps from the trauma of losing the Battle of Mare Smythii, relevant data had been kept under lock and key in Anaheim Electronic's Von Braun Plant. The image materials that were obtained were those of the Mobility Test Type and Firepower Test Type. A V-shaped antenna could be seen on the head of the Mobility Test Type—a specific feature of Gundam-type mobile suits. The fact that the Mobility Test Type already sported a "V" meant it was a valuable sample for gaining systematic knowledge of AE's mobile suit development process [4].
