The RB-79M Ball Type M (aka Ball Bomber) is a variant of the original RB-79 Ball. It first appeared as a part of the MSV-R line.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
A modified version of the Ball developed by the Earth Federation Forces. As a result of the search for a way to operate the Ball as a versatile weapon that could be used not only for its original combat support mission, but also for engineering missions and hand-to-hand combat, this machine, equipped with a large number of space mine dispersal pods, was developed to be able to respond to anti-fleet and MS battles. The low-recoil cannon that was the standard armament of the original model has been replaced with a composite sensor, and the manipulator arms have been shortened to prevent contact when spraying mines. Because of its shape, it is nicknamed "locker" and "lunch box" among maintenance soldiers.
Armaments[]
- MMB-05E Floating Mine
- A total of 48 floating mines, 24 in each of the left and right containers at the rear of the machine. Upon launch, it deploys a total of six sensors on the top, bottom, left, right, front and back. In addition to contact detonation, there are several other detonation modes available.
History[]
Test operations were conducted in early October of UC 0079. After that, it was mainly deployed in Luna II, and scattered mines on the regular routes of the Principality's patrol fleets, achieving results that far exceeded the expectations of the upper management.
At the end of the One Year War, it was deployed in the harsh and difficult mission of deploying mines during fleet battles, and one third of the total production was lost. After the war, all remaining units were recovered and converted to the regular Ball or F-Type.
