The Quasi-Psycommu system is a technology introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ. It is a man-machine interface derived from the Psycommu system, designed for anyone (non-Newtypes specifically) to be able to use all-ranged attacks without the aptitude of Newtypes needed.
Technical Overview[]
The One Year War saw the potential of Newtypes and Newtype-based weaponry as the future of warfare as these weapons were able to overcome the Minovsky Particles that interfered with electromagnetic waves and prevented long-ranged communications and guided weapons from being used. However, Psycommu weaponry had a massive hurdle: the lack of naturally-occurring Newtypes. Thus, to circumvent this situation, two paths were taken. One path, used mainly by the Earth Federation, was the creation of Cyber Newtypes, artificially-augmented humans that were given the abilities of Newtypes, allowing them to use Psycommu weapons at the cost of unstable mental facilities. The other path, used mainly by the emerging Axis Zeon, was the Quasi-Psycommu.
The Quasi-Psycommu worked on the same principle that the original Psycommu system did: a man-machine interface that read a user's brainwaves and translated that to computer code to transmit to connected devices. However, unlike the Psycommu, which was designed to pick up a Newtype's much stronger brainwaves, the Quasi-Psycommu system was designed to read any brainwaves, no matter how weak, and translate that information. However, this was the Quasi-Psycommu's greatest weakness - as a baseline human's brainwaves are much weaker than a Newtype, this information can only be transferred through wires and tethers. While this still allowed a user to perform all-ranged attacks, it still limited what they could do through physical means.
The weapon used commonly with the Quasi-Psycommu is the Incom. This weapon functioned on the same principle as bits and funnels. However, unlike those two weapons, Incoms were bulky as a lot of their mass was dedicated to the wires needed to communicate and guide the weapons. This meant that most mobile suits using Quasi-Psycommu can only use one or two Incom at most.
